Hello Nightly!!!
Tonight we take a look at Atlantis: The Lost Empire. This was a departure for Disney, as this was not any kind of lighthearted musical, this was meant to be an action adventure film, catered more to older kids and young adults rather than strictly kids. It was a big gamble for Disney. But unfortunately it didn’t pay off, as it flopped at the box office and critically, it was lukewarm. It didn’t help that the movie was sandwiched between another action adventure movie in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and a movie that changed animation forever in Shrek. But honestly, I think this movie is criminally underrated. It’s a hidden gem in my book. All the characters are great. Michael J Fox makes for a great but unlikely action lead, Cree Summer is great as the adventurous Princess Kida, and the crew members are all great, each with their own distinct personalities. The animation is also outstanding as well, with the art style borrowing from the work of comic books like Hellboy. This movie is great, I highly recommend it, easily one of my favorite Disney movies.
On to the Nightly.
