Hello Nightly!!!
Tonight we take a look at The Emperor’s New Groove. The movie revolves around a selfish and vain emperor voiced by David Spade, who gets turned into a llama by his advisors Yzma and Kronk, voiced by Eartha Kitt and Patrick Warburgon in a botched assassination attempt. Now the emperor has to rely on a peasant voiced by John Goodman, who the emperor was at odds with, to get him back to human form. Considering how big a mess this movie’s production was, the fact it’s pretty good is incredible. It was originally meant to be an epic grand musical in the vein of the Lion King called Kingdom of the Sun, but due to the underperformance of Pocahontas and Hunchback of Notre Dame financially and critically, so it was retooled into a smaller buddy comedy. The movie is genuinely funny, with there being some really random jokes here and there, like the trampoline joke near the end of the movie, and Kronk’s fourth wall breaking of how he and Yzma beat Kuzco and Kronk back to the castle. There’s a lot of screwball and Looney Tunes style comedy in here. It’s quite a funny movie, and a Disney movie that I think is really underrated.
On to the Nightly.
