CMLL Roundup: Andrade loses to rival, Stephanie Vaquer title defense

Let’s catch up on CMLL news from the lucha libre world.

Week three of Andrade’s return tour ended in defeat. Andrade had a special one-fall match against Volador Jr. on Friday night (Dec. 29) in Arena Mexico. Their rivalry goes back to Andrade winning mask versus mask in 2013. Volador Jr. wanted revenge, and Andrade obliged. Volador Jr. got his wish earning victory via modified Mexican Destroyer.

The highlight reel is banging. The crowd reaction shows how big a star Andrade is in Mexico.

That might be Andrade’s final stop of his return tour in CMLL. It has been confirmed that El Idolo’s contract with AEW expires at the end of 2023, and rumors suggest a return to WWE is imminent for 2024.

Another marque bout from Friday night was the CMLL Women’s World Championship contest. Stephanie Vaquer was fresh of her successful feud with Tessa Blanchard. Next up for the champ was defending against La Jarochita. The challenger executed a wide variety of high-impact maneuvers, but Vaquer rallied to retain via backbreaker.
