Rumored WWE targets set for big matches at New Japan’s upcoming US show

One seems more likely than the other, but WWE is said to have New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s current “ace” Kazuchika Okada and reigning NJPW Strong Women’s champion Giulia on its free agent wish list for 2024.

They’ll get a chance to see them both wrestle here in the United States at New Japan’s Battle in the Valley on Jan. 13, and this week big matches have been set-up for both at that show in San Jose, California.

Okada was challenged by Will Ospreay in a video released on Christmas. The recently signed AEW star has said he plans to remain active in New Japan, and reiterated that here as Ospreay said he’s confident he’ll beat Jon Moxley & David Finlay for the new IWGP Global title at next week’s Wrestle Kingdom 18 — so confident he proposed the latest showdown in his rival with Okada for San Jose:

Giulia’s Battle in the Valley booking came about after she successfully defended her Strong title against Megan Bayne (who is also reportedly signed to AEW, but working in Japan to hone her craft until Tony Khan’s company has plans for her).

Afterwards, Trish Adora issued a video challenge for Battle in the Valley. The champ accepted, and it’s on for two weeks from tomorrow.

NJPW typically doesn’t formalize cards until closer to the show date, but these two matches figure to be in the line-up for Jan. 13. The promotion has announced that Ospreay, Okada & Giulia will be in action at San Jose Civic Center, along with Shingo Takagi, Zack Sabre Jr, Eddie Kingston, El Phantasmo, and Hikuleo.

Could this be Okado or Giulia’s last match in the U.S. before signing with WWE?
