NWA Powerrr recap: EC3 slays giant in world title defense

Let’s check in with the National Wrestling Alliance.

EC3 had a tall task in front of him for episode 133 of NWA Powerrr. The Overman defended the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship against a beast known as Talos.

Despite Talos measuring in at 7 feet in height, EC3 did not back down. Talos muscled him into the corner and patted his head, like a little kid, on the break. EC3 utilized a headlock to neutralize the size difference. Talos regained power control to club EC3 down to the mat.

EC3 rallied with a pair of jawbreakers to stun the giant. It took three running lariats to knock Talos down to one knee. Fee-fi-fo-fum, the fourth lariat sent Talos tumbling over the ropes down to the floor.

Daisy Kill ran in to help Talos, but Jax Dane ceased any notions of interference by pounding the intruder. Dane backed away to let the match continue. EC3 dodged a big boot and countered for a tornado DDT. The champ finished with the One-Percenter headlock driver.

Dane did not reveal his motivation to protect EC3, but the guessing game is pretty clear. Dane is next in line for a title shot at EC3, which was taped on November 18 to air on a future episode of NWA Powerrr. It’s safe to assume that Dane was protecting his opportunity.

This match was an amusing throwback style with EC3 conquering Talos. If you enjoy the simplicity of slaying giants in professional wrestling, then this bout will probably put a smile on your face.

Time for a double dip recap of NWA Powerrr.

Episode 132 (full video) featured NWA women’s world champion Kenzie Paige in non-title action against Taylor Rising. This was a competitive contest with the champ nailing a cutter out of a counter sequence to win. Afterward, Paige wanted to rub her success in the face of Rising, but Natalia Markova ran in to protect her partner.

Also in the women’s division, Max The Impaler continued on the warpath defending the NWA Women’s Television Championship against Missa Kate. The challenger put up a spirited effort, but it was no match for the Warrior of the Wasteland. Max crushed a lariat to win.

Over in the tag team division, world champs Blunt Force Trauma had a scare against Magic Inc. in a non-title bout. The magicians hit a teamwork elevated cutter, however, the referee refused to make the count. I’m not sure why. The legal man made the cover, but it was something else about the rules. Thankfully for the masked meanies, manager Aron Stevens interfered with a loaded punch on Cody James to hand BFT the win. Afterward, CJ (Christi Jaynes) delivered a low blow to Stevens.

The Southern Six duo of Kerry Morton and Alex Taylor defeated the Heat Seekers via fireman’s carry driver from Taylor. This match was no picnic. The Southern Six had to earn victory.

Moving on to episode 133 of NWA Powerrr (full video). In addition to EC3’s title defense, the show featured two more championship bouts.

Colby Corino defended the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship against the debuting Mo Jabari. The newcomer impressed NWA brass by earning a win over Kerry Morton on the indies, thus the booking of this match. Back and forth action culminated with Corino seizing victory on a jumping DDT. Corino is quietly becoming an attraction in the NWA ring. His recent matches are consistently in discussion for best on the card.

Pretty Empowered (Ella Envy & Kylie Paige) retained the NWA World Women’s Tag Team Championship over the debuting King Bees (Danni Bee & Charity King). The champs prevailed in the heated contest by using their wits. Paige hooked a foot in the ropes, and Envy scored the roll-up.

In other action, Blake Troop defeated Koa Laxamana in a submission match. Koa surprised his opponent for a triangle choke from the bottom, so Troop powerbombed his way free. A leglock earned the win.

On the promo tip, The Spectaculars held auditions looking for new members. The cast of characters included Mercurio, Tyler Midas, KC Roxx, and former WWE pirate Paul Burchill. Rolando Freeman and Rush Freeman were at a stalemate on voting. We’ll find out their teammate on the next episode of Powerrr.

Tiffany Nieves is coming to the NWA eyeing the women’s world title. She only cares about being #1.

Aron Stevens challenged CJ to a Turkey Gobbler Gobbler Match after she hit him in the giblets. Stevens is a gentleman who will not strike a woman, so the rules will revolve around grappling. The loser will have to wear a turkey suit and gobble gobble.
