Many words have appeared on this site about the brilliant conclusion of Survivor Series, Sami Zayn's chairshot heard ‘round the world, the fallout and Jey Uso leaving in tears. If you haven't watched it by now, it's one of the best things I've ever seen in sports entertainment.
But one question out of all of this is: What happens to the tag titles? There's no guarantee that Jey doesn't get lured back to The Bloodline given Roman Reigns' ability to manipulate, but he certainly wouldn't be happy about it.
If Jey refuses to rejoin The Bloodline, does the family keep the belts and do we see Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa as the new brother team? That seems credible since Jey walking out could be seen as leaving the team.
It's tantalizing to think about Sami and Jey getting the big stage to take tag gold, especially if we aren't getting a Roman vs. Sami WrestleMania match. But would Jimmy and Jey want to face each other? Would Sami and Kevin Owens as challengers make more sense? Perhaps, but Jey's story is so compelling, it doesn't make sense for him to get left out of WrestleMania plans.
Or would the belts go to Hall of Famer Vacant if The Usos don't reform? That could get us to two tournaments for individual belts, which could be fun but also rather anticlimactic and keep a team from going over by ending The Bloodline's record reign.
An even wackier solution would be to split the belts and let one Uso get the Raw belts and one the SmackDown straps. Yes, very unlikely but stranger things have happened.
Whatever the outcome, one thing that is certain is that this story could go many ways, which makes it so interesting.
The following Tag Team Power Rankings take into account wins, power and placement of segments, recentness of appearances, creative direction and momentum for teams and factions.
WWE Tag Team Power Rankings through Jan. 28:
1. The Bloodline (last week: 1)
Pro: Roman fended off Kevin Owens to keep him gold. The Usos retained to stay double champs to stay with Roman Reigns in the two belts club. This remains the best story in all of the wrestling world.
Con: Sami has finally had enough and is now out, and Jey leaving the ring leaves his status in question.
2. Damage CTRL (3)
Pro: Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai are still women's tag champs and helped put Becky Lynch away before the steel cage match. Teamed well for a while in Royal Rumble.
Con: Still, to promise a steel cage match between two of the best in the biz and not do it is lame.
3. Judgment Day (2)
Pro: Rhea winning the women's rumble puts the team in a good position for gold. The boys put on a good match against The Usos and had a nice rumble outing.
Con: They couldn't take tag gold and the returning Edge and Beth Phoenix will certainly have something to say about the team's future success.
4. Katana Chance and Kayden Carter (5)
Pro: Finally got to show their stuff in the ring for a strong title defense.
Con: Fallon Henley and Kiana James have next.
5. New Day (4)
Pro: Still NXT tag champs and putting together their own invitational.
Con: Is it smart to put yet another team in their title match? It does show confidence and competitiveness, which is cool.
6. Imperium (7)
Pro: Gunther's iron man performance in the rumble makes the Intercontinental Champion's star shine even brighter. They also advanced in the SmackDown tag title tournament. Got a big spot with D-Generation X.
Con: Lost their Raw six-man tag match.
7. Braun Strowman and Ricochet (not ranked)
Pro: Teamed up again to advance in the SmackDown title tournament.
Con: Seem less likely to win the belts than Drew McIntyre and Sheamus, but who knows where the belts stand now?
8. Street Profits (not ranked)
Pro: Continued their little win streak by partnering with Seth Rollins to defeat Imperium.
Con: Will all these wins ever lead them back to gold?
9. Josh Briggs, Brooks Jensen, Fallon Henley and Kiana James (not ranked)
Pro: Cash Money (great nickname, Cagesiders!) won their first women's tag match and now have a title match.
Con: How long can Fallon and Kiana co-exist?
10. Diamond Mine (not ranked)
Pro: The Creed Brothers got a win in a pretty fun match with Drew Gulak and Hank Walker and keep receiving TV time.
Con: Ivy Nile and Tatum Paxley couldn't get a win against Cash Bar. They'll also have to finally try to defeat Indus Sher.
Best tag segment of the week: The last scene after the Roman-KO match was a perfect rollercoaster that keeps the best story going, and the viewers unsure what direction it will take.
Grade: A
The Bloodline stuff headlined, but title defenses and the setup for a great NXT men's title defense make for an outstanding week for tag fans.
