The Nightly: September 22nd, 2022

Hello Nightly!!!

Tonight we take a look at the January 17th, 2000 episodes for both Raw and Nitro.

Over on Raw, it was the go home Raw for Royal Rumble 2000. Cactus Jack is officially back, and Big Show feuds with Rock over Rock calling him a jabroni, which is like feuding with King Booker over being called a peasant. That’s kind of his gimmick. We also got an update on Stone Cold, who underwent successful neck fusion surgery performed by Dr. Lloyd Youngblood, who gave a press conference discussing the details of the surgery.

Over on Nitro, Kevin Nash is the new WCW Commissioner having beaten Terry Funk for the title at Souled Out. And get ready, because the Commissioner title changes hands about as much as the WCW World title. We also got the Nitro debut of Big T, formerly known as Ahmed Johnson, and they had an impromptu match with Booker T, and it sucked. Nash cut a funny state of the Union promo where he vowed to give Mike Tenay a personality, Tank Abbott a heart, Norman Smiley some courage, and he remarks that he sounds like Oz. He also later references Vinnie Vegas later in the night. This was the first Nitro in months to not have Russo on board, having left around Souled Out after being asked to work in a booking committee. As a result, we see a more normal Nitro, though perhaps not a good Nitro. If nothing else, it’s at least a decent episode, though I’d say Raw was better on this night.

On to the Nightly.
