The Nightly: August 11th, 2022

Hello Nightly!!!

Tonight we’ll be taking a look at the August 23rd, 1999 episode of WWF Raw Is War/War Zone.

This was the fallout show from Summerslam 1999. Mankind is the new WWF champion, and Triple H literally strong arms his way into a title match by breaking Jim Ross’s arm. As a result, we’re left with the team of Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler, which brings this show down a peg. We also see Howard Finkel as Chris Jericho’s new lackey, including coming out to the Ultimate Warrior’s music, as well as the debut of the future Kat, Miss Kitty. We also saw a vignette with Blue Meanie and Stevie Richards, called the Blonde Bytch Project, which never made it past this episode because Vince didn’t know what Blair Witch Project was. Big Boss Man would kidnap Al Snow’s dog Pepper, and for those who know your WWF history, it doesn’t really end well. And Triple H would win his first world title on this show, which is a huge deal.

Overall, this was a really strong episode of Raw.

On to the Nightly.
