Tonight, we take a look at the December 18th, 2000 episodes of WWF Raw Is War/War Zone and WCW Monday Nitro.
On Raw, Vince McMahon would challenge Kurt Angle for the WWF title via the order of Commissioner Foley. However, this would backfire as Foley would be assaulted by Angle, Vince, Edge, and Christian, with Stephanie McMahon revealing that due to Linda McMahon having a nervous breakdown over Vince’s divorce demand, Vince has been named CEO of WWF, and thus, now has the power to fire Foley as Commissioner, so it’s Foley’s last night as Commissioner. We also saw Rock and Yndertaker become the new tag champions, as well as a good little match between Regal and Austin.
And on Nitro, it was the fallout show from Starrcade, as they’re already gearing up for WCW Sin, with there being a couple of Championship contender matches to decide Steiner’s opponent for Sin, and one of the opponents ends up being Jeff Jarrett. We also get some more build for Crowbar/Funk as well. Norman Smiley is also the only person pumped up for the return of Glacier. This would end up being the last Nitro with Mark Madden on commentary (at last!, and the last Nitro of 2000 in general, as they would take the following week off, along with New Year’s Day, as they would do clip shows instead. If nothing else, for as much of a train wreck as 2000 was for WCW, at least they were able to end the year on a decent enough note with this Nitro.
On to the Nightly.
