AEW Dynamite Preview (Sept 29, 2021): Battle of Gods

All Elite Wrestling comes our way from Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York. Last week, Bryan Danielson and World Champion Kenny Omega opened the show with a match of the year contender performance. CM Punk confirmed his match with Hobbs on Rampage. MJF defeated Brian Pillman Jr. (embarrassing). Malakai Black defeated Cody Rhodes due to some well-placed mist and the ceaseless incompetence of the Nightmare Family. Sting’s still got it! And Britt Baker narrowly defeated challenger Ruby Soho (with a little help from Rebel & Jamie Hayter) to retain her women’s championship.

This Week’s Headliner:

God’s favorite champion, The Redeemer, The TNT Champion, and hotwife haver, Miro, will put his championship on the line tonight when he goes one-on-one with The Spanish God, Sammy Guevara. Many of Miro’s challengers have felt very much like jobbers to make Miro look great - which is totally valid - but Guevara feels like he could be a real threat. At the very least, this feels like it could be the beginning of a feud between the two. Sammy is fighting for his friends and his rep, while Miro is fighting for God. That is a recipe for carnage.

Or Miro will choke Sammy out and then go bang his hot wife on the car he won. Either way. It’ll be satisfying to watch.

The Title Scene:

Kenny Omega, World Champion, and Bryan Danielson put on a mind-blowing match in the opening segment of last week’s Dynamite. It wasn’t for the championship, but it still had that championship, main event, you don’t want to miss this one feel. But the match was abruptly halted when the two reached the time limit draw. (Omega is counting his lucky stars on that one). Omega has already refused to a rematch (via Twitter), but something tells me Danielson (and management) won’t let him get away with that.

Britt Baker, The World Women’s Champion, won her match against Ruby Soho to retain her championship. But in classic heel form, she did it with a little help. Which means there is no way in hell that Ruby Soho lets that loss stand. Tonight, expect to hear several promos from the women’s division regarding the future of the championship. Britt will brag, and Ruby will demand a rematch. Not to mention Dynamite has “words” scheduled from Thunder Rosa, Nyla Rose & Jade Cargill. It’s good to be the champ...unless everyone has it out for you all at once!

Tag Team Championships had a busy couple of weeks! On last week’s Rampage, they teamed up with Santana & Ortiz to take on The Hardy Family Office where they soundly defeated the HFO (Matt Hardy is a little distracted by a certain Orange menace these days) and celebrated in the ring. If you ask me, the next stop for our champions is a little friendly championship action with their partners Santana & Ortiz.

Other things to keep an eye on:

-Jurassic Express took on the Superkliq last week in what I can only describe as a wildly fun professional wrestling match. Seriously, if you missed it, I would recommend you go back and watch! Tonight the teams will be represented by Adam Cole & Jungle Boy going one-on-one for the first time ever. Now this one should be a hair match.

-Tay Conti & Anna Jay (Team TayJay) are looking to settle things once and for all when they take on the dangerous duo of Penelope Ford & The Bunny. TayJay are the only members of The Dark Order to have their sh*t together, which either means they are going to whip them into shape, or they are going to strike out on their own. Unfortunately for The Dark Order, a win here for TayJay could be the push they need to leave.

-Cody Rhodes suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hand of Malakai Black last week. Tonight he seeks redemption when he teams up with Nightmare Family’s Lee Johnson to take on the high-flying duo of Dante Martin & Matt Sydal.

Tune into AEW on TNT at 8pm ET to see how all this plays out.
