Match graphic for SHO vs. YOH at Wrestle Grand Slam NJPW Global on Twitter

With just a little less than a week to go to the Wrestle Grand Slam in MetLife Dome double-header, New Japan have announced the entirety of both cards, so let’s list ‘em out and break ‘em down, shall we?

Wrestle Grand Slam in MetLife Dome Night 1 (Sept. 4, 4 am ET / 1 am PT)

  • Stardom Special Match
  • Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI & Hiromu Takahashi) vs. Robbie Eagles & Tiger Mask IV
  • SHO vs. YOH
  • Chase Owens (c) vs. Toru Yano (KOPW 2021 Provisional Championship “I Quit” Match)
  • Jeff Cobb vs. Kazuchika Okada
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) vs. Kota Ibushi (IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship)

Wrestle Grand Slam in MetLife Dome Night 2 (Sept. 5, 2 am ET / 11 pm PT)

  • Stardom Special Match
  • Chaos (Kazuchika Okada & Tomohiro Ishii) vs. UNITED EMPIRE (Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb)
  • Bullet Club (El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori) (c) vs. Suzuki-gun (El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) (IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship)
  • Chaos (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI) vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (SANADA & Tetsuya Naito) vs. Suzuki-gun (Taichi & Zack Sabre, Jr.) (c) (IWGP Tag Team Championship)
  • Hiromu Takahashi vs. Robbie Eagles (c) (IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship)
  • EVIL vs. Shingo Takagi (c) (IWGP World Heavyweight Championship)

The majority of the additions since last we discussed these cards come to night one, so let’s start there!

After having a hard time in the Super Jr. Tag Team Tournament that saw them lose every single match, Roppongi 3K explodes! SHO considers YOH the weak link but going back to their young lion days YOH has consistently been able to get the better out of him 7 times out of 10, it’s one of the simplest and thus best stories you can tell in pro wrestling and this match should be a hoot and a half.

Chase Owens isn’t making it easy for the Sublime Master Thief to reclaim the KOPW Provisional Championship— gone are the days of fun handcuff and blindfold stipulations, Owens has been trying to get Yano to renounce his shenanigans and return to the hard-fighting ruthless shooter from the days before Bushiroad encouraged everyone on the roster to be themselves, and part of that plan is making this an “I Quit” match!

Plus Cobb and Okada do battle once again, Tanahashi defends the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship against Kota Ibushi in a can’t-miss main event, and you’ve got a pretty dang solid show set up right there.

But wait, just one more thing...

Yes, Stardom have been getting opening match spots on New Japan shows here and there ever since the Bushiroad buyout, but for the first time these matches will be broadcast live! We unfortunately don’t have any details as to what exactly those matches are going to be at this time, but it’s still pretty exciting to finally have a little Stardom action as part of your NJPW viewing experience!

There you have it, folks

Excited to see what New Japan has to offer this weekend, Cagesiders?
