CMLL releases three top stars

CMLL announced unexpected news yesterday (Aug. 10) with the release of three top stars. The lucha libre promotion has parted ways with Sanson, Cuatrero, and Forastero. That threesome made up the Nueva Generación Dinamita. They were reigning Trios champions, and Cuatrero was also the reigning World Middleweight titleholder.

CMLL broke the news officially. The decision to separate was a mutual agreement. The titles have been declared vacant, and tournaments will determine new champions.

The release of Sanson, Cuatrero, and Forastero is surprising news. The Nueva Generación Dinamita have been pegged as part of the next group of stars to carry CMLL into the future. NGD held the National Trios titles for 1,346 days. They finally cracked through for a passing of the torch to win the World Trios titles from Ultimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero, and Euphoria earlier this year. In addition, Cuatraro held the CMLL World Middleweight Championship for 1,300 days. That is a sign CMLL saw big things for NGD’s future.

There are not a whole lot of public details about these developments, but leave it to other luchadores to chime with spicy takes about low pay and backstage politics.

Rush congratulated Los Dinamita for their freedom. Rush encouraged other wrestlers to open their eyes and dumped on CMLL by saying they don’t help anyone, especially during the down time caused by the COVID pandemic. What good is CMLL if they don’t give you enough to eat?

Soberano Jr. currently wrestlers for CMLL (as of now), and he pointed the finger at Ultimo Guerrero. Soberano has taken notice of how Guerrero’s behind the scenes power has negatively affected the company.

LA Park lamented how far CMLL has fallen. He remembers the feeling of setting out to conquer Arena Mexico. That would have been a great achievement, but now Park sees how CMLL is collapsing. He asks when the Lutteroth family will wake up as CMLL owners.

As for Nueva Generación Dinamita’s next move, it could be as simple as Sanson, Cuatrero, and Forastero showing up to AAA Triplemania XXIX on Saturday night. There are nine spots open for surprise luchadores in the Copa Bardahl match. NGD could also join forces with the invading Empresa faction. La Empresa made a splash at Rey de Reyes with Diamante Azul coming in fresh out of CMLL. Adding NGD to that crew would blur lines to heat up the invasion idea.

Another suitor for the talents of Sanson, Cuatrero, and Forastero would likely be Alberto El Patron and the resurrection of his Nacion Lucha Libre promotion. The company already has a local TV deal in Mexico.

Personally, I’m hoping to see the threesome of luchadores arrive in AAA. It would be one step closer to my dream match of Dinamita versus Poder del Norte. Two of my favorite trios teams colliding makes me salivate. AAA needs a little help in their Trios division at the moment. Los Mercenarios are the current champs. The group was four deep, but it has kind of dwindled away. Rey Escorpion is focused on the hair versus mask Triplemania main event against Psycho Clown. Texano Jr. exited AAA to wrestle for Nacion Lucha Libre. Taurus is running solo with the AAA Latin American Championship. La Hiedra has been spending her time with the Toxicas friends of Lady Maravilla and Lady Flammer.

Sanson, Cuatrero, and Forastero would be perfect to kick-start AAA’s Trios division back up.

What’s your take on CMLL releasing Sanson, Cuatrero, and Forastero? Where do you hope NGD wrestles in the future?
