All Elite Wrestling comes our way from Pittsburgh’s Peterson Events Center. Last week, Jericho defeated Juventud Guerrera, successfully completing labor 3. The Lucha Bros continue to say “no thanks” to Andrade El Idolo. Eddie Kingston, Jon Moxley, & Darby Allin defeated Dynamite newbies Daniel Garcia and 2.0, aka Matt Lee & Jeff Parker. Christian Cage proved that his spear is more elite than The Blade’s brass knuckles. Red Velvet called out Britt Baker and got a championship match on Rampage for her troubles. Dark Order left Hangman hanging when The Elite attacked him during his promo. God was on Miro’s side when he soundly defeated Lee Johnson for the TNT championship. Leyla Hirsch defeated The Bunny to earn herself an NWA women’s championship match against Kamille. And finally, Malakai Black defeated Cody Rhodes so severely that he tried to retire, but Malakai Black refused to let him. You retire when Malakai Black wants you to retire, Cody!
This Week’s Headliner:
MJF may not have thought through this whole Five Labors thing. At least he didn’t think through the climatic order. Don’t get me wrong, Wardlow is impressive and big and stuff, but like...it’s just Wardlow. Chris Jericho knows this man. Chris Jericho knows his tricks. Chris Jericho already took a light bulb to the head. He can handle this.
I’m calling it right now. MJF tries to distract Jericho or get involved somehow, but that actually just distracts Wardlow and BOOM labor crushed, MJF’s worst nightmare comes true.
The Title Scene:
The Elite are in for some tag team action tonight. First, the World Champion Kenny Omega will team up with Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks to face Dante Martin & The Sydals. This is definitely one of those we absolutely know we’re going to win, so we’re going to do with “style” matches. I would bet my house that there will be some kind of post-match beatdown or celebration that gets interrupted by a perturbed cowboy. Maybe one with a championship belt-sized welt on his head. Just a guess.
While their Elite bros are dealing with their own match, The Good Brothers will defend their Impact Tag Titles against Dark Order’s Evil Uno & Stu Grayson. Look, they can’t challenge for the AEW tag titles anytime soon, but Impact? It seems like these cult leaders are more clever than we give them credit for. They didn’t help Hangman last week, but I am choosing to believe it’s because they want him to help himself for self-confidence reasons and not because they hate him. The world is literally on fire, and I can’t take that kind of heartbreak.
Britt Baker D.M.D, baddest bitch in AEW and World Women’s Champion accepted Red Velvet’s championship challenge last week. They’ll lock up this Friday on the premiere of Rampage. So tonight is about building anticipation for this Friday’s premiere. Baker is a killer on the mic, so they’ll likely use her to remind everyone to tune in because, let’s be real, if there is one thing that will get
me us to watch more wrestling, it’s going to be featuring the women more!
Will God be sated with his sacrifice from last week, or does he crave more bloodshed from his favorite TNT Champion Miro? I’m going to guess more bloodshed. Call it a hunch.
Other things to keep an eye on:
-Darby Allin takes on the up-and-coming Daniel Garcia in one-on-one action tonight. Going to assume it’s another one of those, Allin wins, but just barely so Garcia looks good, and then Allin cuts a vague CM Punk promo aka “please watch Rampage. He might be there” deals.
-Wheeler YUTA will teams with Orange Cassidy & Chuck Taylor for a match with the Hardy Family Office. This match will be fun as all things with the Best Friends are, and they have been building up this feud for a while, but is anyone else feeling like this one is stagnant? It’s got all the ingredients, but something isn’t quite tasting right to make it more than a fun showcase match.
-Nyla Rose once again lost to the champion, so she has some work ahead of her to rebuild her badass beast brand! Unfortunately for Nyla, Kris Stadtlander is also trying to rebuild herself up to be a threat after such a long absence. Fortunately for us, that sounds like a hell of a match!
-Dan Lambert from American Top Team is bringing back-up for a showdown with Lance Archer. I’m legit not being snarky here...does anyone care about this? Because to me, this still feels like a recycled Impact storyline from several years ago.
Tune into AEW on TNT at 8pm ET to see how all this plays out.
