AAA Verano de Escándalo full card headlined by title match

Canal Space‘s Twitter

AAA’s Verano de Escándalo is set for tonight (July 3, 2021), and it finally has matches. Deonna Purrazzo versus Lady Shani was the only contest announced prior to this week. The card now includes:

  • AAA World Trios Championship: Texano, Rey Escorpion, & Taurus (c) vs. Psycho Clown, Murder Clown, & Monster Clown
  • Deonna Purrazzo vs. Lady Shani
  • Alas de Oro tournament
  • Laredo Kid, Niño Hamburguesa, & Faby Apache vs. Carta Brava Jr., Tito Santana, & Mocho Cota Jr.
  • Mixed Tag #1 Contender: Abismo Negro Jr. & Flammer vs. Maximo & Mr. Iguana vs. Arez & Chick Tormenta

Los Mercenarios won the Trios titles from Jinetes del Aire (Hijo del Vikingo, Octagon Jr., & Myzteziz Jr.) in May. The winning squad had Texano, Rey Escorpion, and La Hiedra. Taurus is substituting in using the Freebird rule for Verano de Escándalo. Their opponents will be Psycho Circus. The clowns reunited as friends after Monster Clown lost his mask. This match also plays into the Triplemania XXIX mask versus hair main event feud between Psycho Clown and Rey Escorpion.

Deonna Purrazzo’s title versus title challenge against Faby Apache is official for Triplemania XXIX on August 14. To prove her point that American wrestling is better than lucha libre, Purrazzo is going to teach Lady Shani a lesson tonight.

The Alas de Oro tournament is for high-flyers with wings of gold. No participants have been announced. Neither has the format. The first two tournaments were multi-man elimination matches, and the third was first pin to win. Previous winners were Extreme Tiger in 2007, Aerostar in 2008, and Drago in 2015.

The Poder del Norte trios match has no story, but it should still be interesting to watch. In my opinion, Poder del Norte are the best trios team today. Also, this Tito Santana is not the same person as the legend Tito Santana. Laredo Kid always does something cool, Niño Hamburguesa is a fan favorite with big boy moves, and Faby Apache can definitely hold her own in intergender action.

AAA’s Mixed Tag division is a little confusing at the moment. Villano III Jr. & Lady Maravilla were the champions, then Villano left the company. AAA never got around to crowning new champs due to the COVID pandemic cancelling programming. Villano returned to AAA, and it looks like the vacant titles are no longer vacant.

The #1 contender match has three new teams. Brief videos were posted showing their formations. One story is a group of luchadores receiving mystery text messages. Arez and Chik Tormenta decided to follow the advice of a message to form a team and enter the match.

Abismo Negro Jr. suggested to Flammer that they become a team, since they have good chemistry. Flammer was on board with a desire to win gold.

As for Mr. Iguana, he tried to persuade his crush, La Hiedra. She was disgusted and annoyed that he would call her.

Mr. Iguana ended up joining forces with the exotico Maximo.

Verano de Escándalo airs at 9 pm ET on the Space channel in Mexico.

Time for the big question. How can you watch outside of that region? Unfortunately, I do not have an easy answer. Due to a copyright lawsuit with the company that produced Lucha Underground, AAA has been forced to close off global access on their YouTube channel. There is no end in sight to this legal battle at the moment. A more thorough explanation is offered from Luchablog (here). Even though Verano de Escándalo isn’t available worldwide, that has never stopped the internet, and AAA shows have been known to show up on places like Twitch.

Which match for Verano de Escándalo are you most excited for? Gives us your predictions in the comments.
