All Elite Wrestling comes our way from the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas. Last week, Jon Moxley returned and defeated Carl Anderson, retaining his IWGP US Title. Ricky Starks defeated Brian Cage to win the FTW championship. Cody Rhodes wore a white suit to call out a black suit wearing Malakai Black. It was subtle. Adam Page’s interview was interrupted by Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, only helping to solidify Adam Page’s desire to dethrone Omega. Chris Jericho has started to call himself The God of War. Christian Cage defeated Matt Hardy, but their friends, Jungle Express and The Hardy Family, made sure that this feud will continue. Sammy Guevara defeated a debuting Wheeler Yuta. Yuka Sakazaki returned and defeated Penelope Ford. Darby Allin won his coffin match and then destroyed a coffin with Ethan Page INSIDE OF IT!
This Week’s Headliner:
It’s finally happening! Tonight on Dynamite the Women’s Champion Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. defends her title against former champion Nyla Rose. This is Britt’s first real challenge as a champion, and while I have absolute faith in her, this match will take a little more than endless charisma to win. Nyla is a former champion and is a beast in the ring. Britt can’t take her eyes off her for one minute lest she powerbomb Britt through a table. Again. Not to mention Nyla’s crafty manager Vickie Guerrero!
While I think this match will be a fun one, it’s definitely a match that’s more about solidifying Britt as a threatening champion and less about her potentially losing the title. The reign of Dr. Britt Baker has just begun, and this is but a bump in the road.
The Title Scene:
World Champion Kenny Omega and Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks issued a challenge to hopeful championship contender Hangman Adam Page last week. If he wants a shot at the championship, he has to team up with The Dark Order and win a five-on-five elimination match against The Elite. If Elite wins, The Dark Order and Hangman lose their championship opportunities. Tonight, I bet we get some Dark Order backstage segments and some solidification on when and how this match is going down.
It’ll be a busy night for The Elite, though, because Frankie Kazarian is still out for blood, and he is set on taking out The Elite’s Doc Gallows tonight. Tough to be on top. Everyone wants to knock you down.
Will TNT Champion Miro sacrifice another wrestler to God tonight? Hopefully.
Other things to keep an eye on:
-The God of War, Chris Jericho, begins his Five Labours tonight against Pinnacle member Shawn Spears. If you’re thinking, “gods, that sounds super easy,” well, you’re still right, but the gimmick here is that Shawn Spears is the only person in the match that can use a chair. Which only makes it marginally more difficult.
-When Jon Moxley said he was coming back to AEW he wasn’t messing around! Tonight he defends his IWGP United States championship for the second time in two weeks against Lance Archer in a Texas Deathmatch! Lance Archer might be the Murderhawk, but Jon Moxley is prepared to make him the deadman. You “will not only be Texas-born, Texas-bred, but you’ll be Texas-dead.”
-The Best Friends continue to battle The Blade, The Butcher and The Bunny when Orange Cassidy takes on The Blade in one-on-one action.
Tune into AEW on TNT at 8pm ET to see how all this plays out.
