The Nightly: July 20th, 2021

Hello Nightly!!!

Tonight, it’ll just be a Nitro review, as WWF opted to take Christmas off, so there was no Raw on Christmas. However, Nitro would still air on Christmas, and not only was it a holiday edition of Nitro, it also happened to be the go home show for Starrcade 1995.

Lex Luger vs. Scotty Riggs:

Pretty much the same match as Luger’s other match with Bagwell the week prior.

Sting vs. Big Bubba Rogers:

Okay match.

Dean Malenko vs. Mr. J.L.:

Pretty good match, the submission at the end by Malenko was really cool, and one that you didn’t really see a lot of in wrestling all that much at the time, looked like something from MMA or something like that.

Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship:

Much better match than the match with the Giant the week prior, but this was yet another world title match on Nitro that ended via interference.

Overall, this show was a mixed bag. First half was pretty forgettable, though Malenko/JL and Savage/Flair in the second half really gave the show a boost. Nitro would get a 2.5 rating on this night.

On to the Nightly.
