All Elite Wrestling comes our way from Jacksonville, Florida. Last week, they opened the show by still trying to make Shawn Spears “Chairman” a thing when he attacked Sammy Guevara courtesy of MJF. Hangman Adam Page defeated Powerhouse Hobbs mainly due to Brian Cage and failed Team Taz shenanigans. The Young Bucks made BOLD fashion choices and even bolder threats to PAC, Penta, and Eddie Kingston. Konnan and Tully Blanchard had a truly awkward exchange to set up FTR versus Proud & Powerful. Vickie and Andrade tried to bump Matt Sydal and Dante Martin from the line-up, but their third eyes were closed. Christian Cage and Jungle Boy broed out backstage. Miro called out Brian Pillman Jr. to remind him that Miro is God’s champion (with a hot wife). Ethan Page defeated Bear Bronson and celebrated by challenging Darby Allin to a coffin match. Britt & Rebel really wanted a yacht (Tony make it happen), but Vickie & Nyla only wanted that championship. Kris Stantlander defeated The Bunny, but The Hardy Brand wasn’t finished with The Best Friends (in space). Kenny Omega narrowly retained his World Championship against Jungle Boy, but his post-match celebratory beatdown was interrupted by Christian Cage protecting his young jungle bro!
This Week’s Headliner:
MJF and Sammy Guevara are destined enemies. Since the very moment MJF deigned to join The Inner Circle, Guevara has had it out for him. And it turns out he was right! MJF is the king snake among snakes. After their embarrassing loss to The Pinnacle at Blood & Guts Sammy no longer wants to talk about MJF and why he sucks. He wants to hurt MJF and hurt him bad. Look, you can insult and hurt Sammy, but the moment you hurt Chris Jericho, his pseudo father, and hero, then it’s on! Now, it’s time for him to shine in his full babyface form!
MJF has always been surrounded with paid-off yes men and acolytes. He even sent his boys to mess with Sammy last week instead of getting his own hands dirty. It will be interesting to see just how much he relies on them tonight in his match against much better wrestler - seriously so much better - Sammy Guevara. In-ring talent-wise, MJF can’t hold a candle to Guevara, but MJF prides himself on his out-of-ring acumen and his, frankly, disturbing level of animosity to get the job done.
The Title Scene:
World Champion Kenny Omega and Co. are 100% going to have some words for Christian Cage after his post match run in against the champ. Ever since his debut on Dynamite, Cage has made it clear that he wants a go at the championship. He almost earned it during the Casino Battle Royale, but after his heroics last week, I think it’s safe to say that the road to Cage vs. Omega starts here.
God’s favorite champion Miro will defend his TNT Championship tonight against Brian Pillman, Jr. This one has a little more oomf that the traditional open challenge, but, let’s be real, God is not letting Brian Pillman, Jr. win tonight.
Eddie Kingston & Penta El Zero M are best friends again (I guess that old saying is true), and tonight they take on the Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks, in a Tag Title Eliminator match. Eddie and Penta have been prey to The Young Bucks many, many cheating attempts, and tonight they will have to keep their head on a swivel if they want to come out on top. Eddie said he wanted a real, but I think he’ll have to settle for a superkick fashion show instead.
Women’s Champion Britt Baker will team up with her ride-or-die partner Rebel to take on number one contender Nyla Rose and her manager Vickie Guerrero. Not totally sure why we’re doing this instead of a regular one-on-one championship match - a match that is undoubtedly on the horizon - but at least we’re sure to get some high-def comedy moments tonight.
Other things to keep an eye on:
-Chris Jericho will be on commentary tonight, so expect lots of hot “here is why The Inner Circle rules and The Pinnacle drools” content.
-Chaos in Team Taz as they deal with the fallout of Brian Cage costing Powerhouse Hobbs his match against Hangman Adam Page
Tune into AEW on TNT at 8pm ET to see how all this plays out.
