NJPW’s Satoshi Kojima wins first match in Impact

New, 4 comments

With the Forbidden Door open wide, NJPW legend Satoshi Kojima walked through last week with one man on his mind. Kojima called out Joe Doering for singles competition at Against All Odds on June 12. That request was accepted, and Kojima was booked to rumble with one of Violent by Design’s cronies tonight on Impact Wrestling (June 3, 2021).

Kojima faced off against Deaner with the full Violent by Design crew watching ringside. Kojima took control with a series of chops, a running forearm smash in the corner, and a flying elbow drop. Later, Kojima escaped a DDT to hit a brainbuster.

It was only a matter of time before Violent by Design got involved. Eddie Edwards came out with ‘Kenny the kendo stick’ to even the playing field. Kojima put Deaner down with a cutter then flattened him with a cozy lariat to win.

Even though Edwards has spent ten years of his career wrestling with NOAH in Japan, Edwards and Kojima don’t appear to have a direct connection other than Kojima defeating him in a singles match in NOAH during 2013. It was more likely a case of Edwards doing what’s right. Violent by Design being a bunch of scoundrels, and Edwards is a true babyface out to protect a legend. It would be pretty cool to see Edwards and Kojima team up for a shot at tag team gold.

How do you think Kojima looked in his Impact debut? Would you like to see Kojima stick around longer after his match against Doering?
