Rumor Look Back: Dec. 6 - 12, 2020

Welcome to the weekly Rumor Look Back, where we look at the rumors from six months ago and see which played out as originally stated. Let’s get right to it.

December 7, 2020

  • PW Insider notes that there was fear Candice LeRae may have suffered a broken bone in her arm but that was unconfirmed. For what it’s worth, Triple H mentioned she needs an x-ray to see the extent of the damage. He also said there were “multiple injuries” coming out of NXT TakeOver: WarGames but said none were considered serious.
  • I recall LeRae wearing a brace on her arm. According to cagematch, she didn’t wrestle for a month after WarGames. That being said, as for other injuries, Bobby Fish sustained an injury that cost him half a year. Pretty serious. (1/2)
  • The Observer notes the full TLC card was finalized at a meeting on Thursday this past week, so we should see all the matches officially booked sooner rather than later.
  • The show was less than two weeks away so of course they’d be booked sooner than later.
  • Per Wrestling Inc, Kenny Omega appearing on Impact will be a one-off and The Good Brothers will likely be coming to AEW for a match but that’s likely the extent of the relationship between the two sides.
  • Kenny Omega now holds the Impact title. The Good Brothers are on Dynamite all the time. Definitely not a one-off. (0/1)
  • They also say Don Callis’ contract with Impact Wrestling is up soon and he’s likely to move to AEW when it’s up.
  • It looks like this is true. Now technically it hasn’t been confirmed officially, but the linked report has been out the for almost a month and no one has disputed it. (1/1)
  • According to the Observer, Dynamite on Dec. 23 won’t air in its usual time slot but could air after an NBA game that night but that’s not certain yet.
  • It aired at 10 pm after a basketball game. (1/1)

December 8, 2020

  • WWE has discussed pairing Andrade & Charlotte Flair when they return, per WrestleVotes. The idea would be to use her star power to elevate him.
  • The never happened. Andrade has since left WWE and is now in AEW. (0/1)
  • The Don Callis/Kenny Omega segment on tonight’s Impact was filmed Saturday in Canada, according to PW Insider.
  • Kenny started showing up to the actual tapings eventually.
  • Insider also says Eva Marie “is listed as a member of the company’s roster internally but has not been officially assigned to a brand.” They say she’s been spotted at the Performance Center “several times” since September.
  • She is on the roster. Hasn’t debuted yet though. That’s tomorrow. (1/1)
  • A report from Wrestling Inc claims AEW is interested in Tessa Blanchard, but she’s waiting out the pandemic in Mexico with her husband Daga and won’t make any decisions until she’s back in the U.S.
  • I’m curious to see where she’ll show up.
  • The crowd shot of Adam Cole’s girlfriend and AEW star Britt Baker from last year’s TakeOver: WarGames has been edited out of the version that’s currently available on WWE Network.
  • A shame Adam Cole wasn’t in the AEW crowd making the same face during Britt’s Lights Out match with Thunder Rosa. But he was working.

December 9, 2020

  • WrestleTalk says WWE is still hoping to have The Rock vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37 next year.
  • That did not happen. I think it could at one point though. (0/1)
  • They also say that if that can’t happen, other wrestlers thrown around as possibilities include Big E, Daniel Bryan, Drew McIntyre, and Goldberg.
  • It was Daniel Bryan & Edge.
  • Per SI, AEW has plans for Sting to wrestle, although he won’t be working or wrestling anywhere near a full time schedule.
  • Sting has wrestled one cinematic and one real tag match. It’s only been PPVs. (2/2)
  • According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Alexa Bliss missed Raw this week because she was in LA doing a remake of Punky Brewster.
  • Which is on the WWE Network’s new home of Peacock.
  • PW Insider notes that many wrestlers are frustrated with Bruce Prichard, with saying the frustration is over a lack of television time.
  • That’s the issue with such a bloated roster. Yes, they definitely could utilize more people, but even if they were good at it, they just can’t use as many people as they have on the roster.

December 10, 2020

  • Charlotte Flair’s booking in NXT earlier this year was the subject of a recent Fightful Select report. Sources told them all of NXT’s plans had to be run by Raw creative. When they were, they’d often get shot down.
  • That’s not surprising. That makes sense given how her character in NXT didn’t feel the same as the one on the main roster. NXT Charlotte was booked more as a true heel.
  • Rhea Ripley was originally supposed to beat Flair at WrestleMania 36, but the plan was changed. NXT also made a “big push” to get Bianca Belair added to the match, but couldn’t make it happen.
  • Ripley’s loss is still baffling but at least she won the title at this year’s WrestleMania. Still needs that win over Charlotte though.
  • According to, Penta El Zero M injured his leg while training recently and the table spot on Dynamite last night was to write him off while it heals.
  • According to cagematch, he wrestled two days later for Triple A, but maybe that was taped prior to the injury. After that, it wasn’t until January.
  • WWE recently filed a trademark for “Karen Kwan”. It’s believed that will be the name used by Karen Q. Speculation is the Xia Li/Boa vignettes on NXT are leading to her debut.
  • There is no Karen Kwan. She’s Mei Ying. (0/1)
  • PW Insider says a recent virtual company-wide meeting at WWE was primarily to introduce new President & Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan. Employees were also told they’re still working toward moving to the new Stamford headquarters building “slowly, but surely.”
  • Nick Khan is making some waves.

December 11, 2020

  • WrestleVotes was told that WWE is considering the following matches for WrestleMania 37: Goldberg vs. Roman Reigns, Edge vs. Randy Orton, and Drew McIntyre vs. Brock Lesnar vs. Keith Lee.
  • Those three matches didn’t happen. (0/3)
  • Sources have told Ringside News that the above rumor is “bullshit.” Those matches have not been officially pitched, and Vince McMahon isn’t even discussing plans for Royal Rumble 2021 yet.
  • I don’t know about bullshit, but they were sure wrong when it all played out. (1/1)
  • On Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez said there are people in WWE who are “very upset” about WWE Hall of Famer Snoop Dogg’s upcoming appearance at AEW’s New Year’s Smash.
  • They probably all envied that splash.
  • PW Insider noted that WWE’s decision to pull Snoop Dogg’s merchandise from their shop has nothing to do with his relationship with AEW.
  • Why else would they?
  • Santana should be returning to AEW Dynamite next week, per F4WOnline’s Dave Meltzer.
  • That’s the case. (1/1)

December 12, 2020

  • According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The Rock has said he’s willing to come back to wrestle Roman Reigns but not until WrestleMania in 2022.
  • Makes sense. He’d want that whole angle to be in front of fans.
  • They also say that despite all the talk, Daniel Bryan and Drew McIntyre are the current frontrunners to be Reigns’ opponent at WrestleMania 37 next year.
  • Bryan (and Edge) faced him. (1/1)
  • Fightful says people are baffled that Keith Lee was among the big guys sent to the Performance Center for additional training, and it’s been theorized he was just caught up in the group because of his size.
  • This was a weird one. Keith’s absence in itself has just been one big mystery.
  • Meanwhile, there’s apparently a belief among some that Otis could be working safer.
  • Meaning he was working a bit unsafe I think.
  • Bobby Fish’s injury isn’t considered serious and he is expected to miss about eight weeks, per the Observer.
  • More like 5 months. (0/1)

This week: 9/18 - 50%

Overall: 3,772/6,713 - 56.2%

Have a good week, everyone!
