Round 4 of MLW’s open draft gimmick announced big match news for the July 10 event in Philadelphia, and they also revealed adding an intriguing luchador to the roster.
Alicia Atout declared that the Battle Riot match is scheduled for MLW’s season opener on July 10. The Battle Riot is MLW’s version of the Royal Rumble. There will be 40 participants entering at 1-minute intervals. Eliminations are by pin, submission, or over the top rope. The winner will receive a shot at the MLW World Heavyweight Championship. Jacob Fatu is the current title-holder.
The first official participant is Alexander Hammerstone. These are big stakes for the tanned muscleman. Since Josef Samael contractually controls who challenges Fatu, winning the Battle Riot is Hammerstone’s chance to force his way into a title fight.
The latest draft pick to sign is Arez.

Arez stands at 5’8” and 155 pounds. His finisher is the top rope package piledriver. MLW’s profile describes Arez’s style as, “akin to a lucha version of Krav Maga, disabling and destroying victims via a vicious art of defense.” Arez will join Cesar Duran (alias Dario Cueto) and Azteca Underground. Duran told MLW.com, “Arez’s mission in MLW is quite simple: it’s to collect gold and masks in the name of Azteca! See you in just a few weeks, amigos.”
I like this addition to the roster. Arez is one that always stands out with cool moves whenever I watch his matches. Arez versus Myron Reed or Low Ki are the contests I desire in MLW.
Duran is building quite the stable of fighters with King Muertes, LA Park, Hijo de LA Park, LA Park Jr., Aramis, and Arez. Aramis was signed last week, and he promptly went on a tour winning gold over the weekend.

Atout also confirmed the return of Calvin Tankman and Mads Krugger when MLW kicks off their new season on July 10 in Philadelphia. Those names will join Aramis, Lee Moriarty, Savio Vega, Zenshi, ring announcer Stephen DeAngelis, Alex Kane, Gringo Loco, King Mo, Tom Lawlor, Davey Richards, Marshall Von Erich, Ross Von Erich, Gino Medina, King Muertes, and Cesar Duran (alias Dario Cueto) at the show.
Who is your early pick to win Battle Riot? Do you like the signing of Arez?
