Welcome to the weekly Rumor Look Back, where we look at the rumors from six months ago and see which played out as originally stated. Let’s get right to it.
- Mick Foley told talkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy that he had a “top secret meeting” with Vince McMahon recently. Details are supposed to come out soon.
- I don’t know if anything came out of it. Maybe the secret meeting happened, but it didn’t go anywhere. So those details didn’t come out. (0/1)
- Support from “several people behind-the-scenes” led to Chad Gable getting his name back, per WrestlingNews.co. Daniel Bryan is said to be one of Gable’s supporters.
- Of course. He’s his father.
- There’s speculation WWE will soon change Lars Sullivan’s name to “The Freak”.
- It was never fully changed to the point he lost “Lars Sullivan.” (0/1)
- Multiple sites report that Kylie Rae travelled to Nashville to work Bound For Glory and did not miss her Knockouts title match due to injury. No one would comment on the circumstances, but sources told PW Insider she’s still in good standing with the company and will return when she’s able to.
- She’s wrestling again, but hasn’t yet returned to Impact. Maybe she will though. No matter what decides, all the best to her.
- WWE talents will undergo a mandatory training on healthy relationships this Wednesday, according to Wrestling Observer Newsletter. It’s part of an attempt to change the culture after the #SpeakingOut movement.
- It’s good to have that. It’s something that should happen multiple times a year.
- WWE’s long-term plans for the WWE title haven’t changed, according to Wrestling Observer Radio. Once Edge is cleared, they’ll start working toward him challenging Randy Orton for the belt at WrestleMania 37.
- Edge did not challenge Randy at Mania. Instead, he challenged Roman (in a triple treat with Daniel Bryan). Likely much better than yet another Randy/Edge match. (0/1)
- The timing of Orton’s win at Hell in a Cell confused people backstage, sources told Fightful Select, because he’d been protected from WrestleMania 36 until SummerSlam but then lost repeatedly during the program with Drew McIntyre.
- Yeah, that was all weird. Then he lost it right back to McIntyre anyway. Maybe Orton’s loss was an indication that they were moving away from Randy/Edge at Mania.
- WWE.com lists Tucker on the SmackDown roster page, which led to some speculation he’s being moved back there after turning on Otis. But it seems they never moved him to the Raw page after the Draft, so don’t read too much into that.
- The speculation was wrong. He remained on Raw until he was released a couple weeks back. The fact they never bothered to put him on the correct page in the first place was a sign of things to come.
- Marty Scurll is no longer listed on Ring of Honor’s roster page. PW Insider notes that he hasn’t been at any of ROH’s Baltimore TV tapings, and despite having been named head booker when he re-signed, Scurll hasn’t been involved in booking decisions since the company’s investigation of #SpeakingOut allegations against him & others was announced. Dave Meltzer said on WOR that he isn’t fired, just not being used.
- He has since parted ways with ROH.
- Meltzer also reports that the Abadon/Tay Conti match announced for this week’s Dynamite has been pulled as a result of the injury Abadon suffered when it was filmed.
- It’s always too bad when someone gets hurt.
- On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that everything with WWE moving the ThunderDome is up in the air and may depend on what the NBA is planning for its next season.
- The next move was to Tropicana Field. The Orlando Magic needed to take Amway back for the start of the NBA season. Then WWE had to leave Tropicana because the Rays needed it for baseball.
- Per PW Insider, Tucker will be staying on Monday Night Raw but will continue his feud with Otis despite being on separate brands.
- He didn’t continue his feud. Tucker’s run was dead as soon as he split with Otis. (0/1)
- If there was any doubt about it, Meltzer says there are zero plans for NXT to be involved in Survivor Series at all this year.
- That’s accurate. I like it better this way. They should be a bit removed from Raw & SmackDown. (1/1)
- According to Insider, Michael PS Hayes was the producer for the Reigns vs. Uso match, Chris Park was the producer for McIntyre vs. Orton, and Tyson Kidd & Pat Buck were the producers for Bayley vs. Banks at Hell in a Cell. Those were the main producers for the matches, at least.
- Abyss working backstage at WWE is still wild to me.
- Per Tokyo Sports, Meiko Satomura will be joining NXT UK as both a coach and in-ring talent
- That’s the case. I don’t know if she acts as a coach, but she is an in-ring talent. Given time, I don’t watch UK so I hope she ends up on NXT Prime at one point. (1/1)
- NXT’s latest COVID scare stems from an “in-house live event” held last Friday, according to Fightful Select. WWE has been regularly holding the events to monitor trainees progress.
- The PC outbreaks were pretty consistent.
- Talent and staff who didn’t attend last Friday’s event were said to be “in the dark” about a potential outbreak.
- Man, that’s not good. Transparency is everything in a situation like that. But again, this is WWE so I don’t expect that too often.
- Fightful also had an update on Kylie Rae, who Impact is hoping to have back as soon as she’s able. There’s no heat on her for no showing Bound For Glory, and storyline possibilities were left open for her at this week’s taping.
- We’ll see if she makes her way back there.
- Earlier this week, Wrestling Observer Radio reported Rae was “physically fine” when officials finally reached her after Saturday’s PPV. Talent Fightful spoke to for their report hadn’t heard from her since before Bound For Glory.
- Hopefully she’s in a good place right now.
- WWE looks to be going with “The Associate” as the gimmick name for AJ Styles’ bodyguard Jordon Omogbehin, per Observer Radio.
- I don’t believe they called him that at all. Just Omos. (0/1)
- In addition to losing his first name, Fightful mentions that Matt Riddle is going to have a more serious presentation going forward. These changes apparently all stem from Vince McMahon being impressed with Riddle’s match against Sheamus on Raw.
- This rumor cracks me up. The man rolls around on a scooter and says dumb shit backstage. It’s the opposite of more serious. The idea that this guy would be playing some super serious dude is rather hilarious given how it actually played out. That’s why I’m dubbing this the most ridiculous rumor as of late. (0/1)
- Fightful also says that McMahon wanted RECKONING to act like she was having a seizure on Raw, but it was changed to a possession after people spoke up about the idea being in poor taste.
- That was so weird. So so weird.
- On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Le Dinner Debonair’s song-and-dance routine on Dynamite was MJF’s idea, but he wanted to use an Elton John song.
- I wonder which Elton song.
- After Dave Meltzer said he was told weeks ago that Thunder Rosa was dropping the NWA women’s title due to her interest in going to WWE, Billy Corgan stated that she is under contract with NWA into 2021.
- She’s still doing work with them on their weekly show. I don’t know the contract situation specifics.
- A listing of political donations at Open Secrets suggests that Chris Jericho has made donations to President Trump’s campaign under both his real name and his gimmick name.
- This was very not surprising news.
- Like last week, the creative team didn’t finish writing SmackDown until roughly an hour before the show went on the air, says Bryan Alvarez.
- Like we said last week, this rumor never changes.
- According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are no plans to hotshot a big money title match for Roman Reigns with John Cena or Goldberg right now, despite the lack of challengers for him. Daniel Bryan could very well be next in line.
- Bryan was after a long Kevin Owens feud. (1/2)
- The Observer notes that several talent have already talked to Andrew Yang about WWE forcing talent to get rid of Twitch while others are just upset about it.
- Yang has dropped that crusade in favor of a run at the mayors seat of NYC.
- Xia Li was apparently upset with WWE over pulling her from an amateur fight she was going to do and per Fightful she went straight to Triple H and told him about it. She also apparently has frustrations about her lack of use on NXT television.
- Her direct conversation with the boss seemed to help, given she soon had the gimmick with Tian Sha.
- Per PW Insider, Fallah Bahh has signed a new deal with Impact Wrestling.
- He’s kind of a bottom barrel guy but he still works there. Seems like he was bigger when I was still watching years back when he was teaming with KM.
This week: 3/10 - 30%
October 2020: 25/53 - 47%
Overall: 3,724/6,628 - 56.2%
Have a great week, everyone. Stay safe out there.
