Rumor Look Back: Nov. 9 - 15, 2020

Welcome to the weekly Rumor Look Back, where we look at the rumors from six months ago and see which played out as originally stated. Let’s get right to it.

November 9, 2020

  • Per Fightful, Mercedes Martinez asked to be removed from RETRIBUTION and there are no plans to add another female member at this time.
  • They did not add another female member. (1/1)
  • The Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes the Street Profits aren’t scripted the way other performers on the WWE roster are.
  • I always find these rumors interesting - the ones regarding who has more freedom on the mic. I’m a bit surprised about the Street Profits since they are a newer team. But you can’t script Tez.
  • According to WrestlingNews.co, Vince McMahon has been impressed with Aalyah Mysterio and we can expect to see a lot more of her going forward.
  • She completely disappeared. (0/1)
  • Zelina Vega said that at one point there was apparently a plan in place to have her marriage to Aleister Black become part of WWE storylines.
  • They probably told her that, but I’d be surprised if that actually happened. Word has it she’s coming back so we may see if that’s something they go to.
  • Lio Rush told Wrestling Inc he’ll be in an upcoming Power Rangers movie.
  • This is the Legend of the White Dragon movie. The imdb doesn’t mention Lio Rush/Lionel Green, but that doesn’t mean he’s not doing work on it. I doubt he’d lie about that.

November 10, 2020

  • WWE filed trademark claims for several old WCW event names recently, Heel By Nature confirmed. That included ”Bash At The Beach”, which would explain why AEW’s January theme show will be “Beach Break” this year.
  • Everyone wants those sweet old WCW PPV names.
  • The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that SmackDown’s Aalyah Mysterio/Murphy story could be modeled on a Konnan angle from Puerto Rico’s CWC. If that turns out to be the case, we’d be headed toward a wedding segment where Seth Rollins reveals he manipulated the entire situation.
  • While I love me a good wrestling wedding, and even called for one, it never got that far. (0/1)
  • Spanish language commentator Jerry Soto was also among WWE’s latest releases, according to Super Luchas.
  • Never want to hear about someone losing their job.
  • 10 - 15 people are believed to have been released in total, per PW Insider.
  • They just kept cutting people even though profits were better than ever.
  • IWA Puerto Rico announced Savio Vega will be at Survivor Series for Undertaker’s Final Farewell.
  • He was one of the guys who walked to the ring prior to leaving the ring for Undertaker to give his final speech. (1/1)

November 11, 2020

  • According to PW Insider, Braun Strowman is now considered a babyface internally at WWE.
  • That makes sense. He had a pretty babyface path, heading towards his match with Shane bullying him at WrestleMania. (1/1)
  • They also say there has been talk of reviving Tribute to the Troops next month.
  • They brought it back in the ThunderDome with troops on the screens. (1/1)
  • Insider also passes along word that Vince McMahon missed SmackDown last week and Bruce Prichard ran the show in his place.
  • There are more frequent rumors of Vince not being at a show.
  • On Wrestling Observer Radio, it was noted WWE is considering Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida as a possible site for the ThunderDome. WWE has apparently looked at other indoor buildings in Florida as well.
  • That was the next stop for the Dome. (1/1)
  • Per Fightful, WWE could be bringing back No Way Jose. A recent trademark filing for “The Way” could be related to as much.
  • That did not happen. The Way is Johnny Gargano’s stable name. (0/1)

November 12, 2020

  • There’s speculation from fans and sites such as Sportskeeda that Mandy Rose was injured on the Nov. 9 Raw. Rose landed awkwardly on the apron after being thrown through the ropes by Nia Jax, clutched her shoulder, and was quickly taken to the back by officials.
  • Mandy missed some time (a few weeks) and it sounds like it was legit. (1/1)
  • On Talk Is Jericho, Jake Hager claimed John Cena “refused” to drop the WWE title to him in 2010 when he had the Money in the Bank briefcase.
  • Jericho was the one who dropped the belt to him in the end.
  • The Rascalz are leaving Impact, as PW Insider says their contracts are up. Wrestling Inc reports the trio has a “standing offer” from WWE and they’re expected to sign there soon.
  • Two out of three of them signed there. Trey Miguel stayed with Impact. So this is kind of right but not completely correct so I decided to split the difference on here. (1/2)
  • Santana Garrett was given a “phantom call-up” from NXT to the main roster earlier this year, per Fightful Select. She joins Chelsea Green and Vanessa Borne in limbo.
  • She isn’t doing anything right now. Chelsea has been released. Haven’t heard anything about Borne. She still has WWE/NXT tags in her Twitter bio and tweets about them so I assume she’s still with them, but she hasn’t been on TV in a very long time.
  • Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston will appear on season two of Adult Swim’s Lazor Wulf. Big E is a part of the regular voice cast for the animated show.
  • That’s true, though it was already officially announced, which is why I’m not marking it as correct.

November 13, 2020

  • WrestleMania 37 is currently scheduled to take place on March 28, 2021. However, WrestleVotes indicates there are discussions to push the date back to either April 11 or April 18, with the goal of having live fans in attendance.
  • This is true. It was April 10 & 11 with fans. (2/2)
  • PW Insider noted that Kane and the Godfather will be at the Undertaker’s final farewell on Nov. 22 at Survivor Series. Savio Vega suggested to Wrestling Inc that Rikishi and the Godwinns will also be there.
  • This is accurate on all four accounts. (4/4)
  • According to Ringside News, Seth Rollins is scheduled for time off soon, because Becky Lynch is giving birth in December.
  • It was after Survivor Series. (1/1)
  • BodySlam.net was told that AEW’s current plan is for PAC to reunite with the Lucha Bros to battle against Eddie Kingston, the Butcher, and the Blade.
  • That was a feud they ran for a bit. (1/1)
  • On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that the Young Bucks were originally supposed to wrestle on the Nov. 11 episode of Dynamite, but their match was pushed back one week to give them extra time to heal up from Full Gear.
  • Gotta rest the body.

November 14, 2020

  • PW Insider notes that Zelina Vega’s release was indeed due to the recent edict from WWE for talent to drop relationships with third party entities like Twitch.
  • This seemed to be a flashpoint for some change coming to the way WWE classifies its employees but alas, it’s all still the same. I still laugh thinking about all the wrestlers tagging Andrew Yang, thinking he’d be some catalyst for change. Hell, I believed he’d do something. But nothing ever changes. And now Zelina is probably coming back. Things change. But some things just stay the same.
  • Dave Meltzer mentioned on Twitter that Vega’s release is believed to also have something to do with her having an OnlyFans and the company wanting her to get rid of that.
  • It looks like she did get rid of that. I don’t know how long it was up for. Maybe she ditched it when she knew she may be returning.
  • WrestleVotes notes that while it may not be directly related, Aleister Black recently asked to be moved back to NXT and was told no.
  • He’s finally back on SmackDown... reading stories.
  • WWE has to be out of the Amway Center by Dec. 5 and the leading candidate is Tropicana Field until the next baseball season starts, per the Observer.
  • Tropicana was the next stop. Then the Yuengling Center. (1/1)
  • Per Meltzer, there’s a major announcement coming on Sunday regarding something to do with women’s wrestling.
  • I don’t recall anything of the sort, but if someone does, remind me below. (0/1)

This week: 16/21 - 76%

Overall: 3,745/6,658 - 56.2%

Have a great week, everyone. Stay safe out there.
