NJPW Sakura Genesis 2021 results: Ibushi vs. Ospreay, RPG3K vs. Suzuki-gun, and more

Match and time graphic for Kota Ibushi vs. Will Ospreay at NJPW Sakura Genesis 2021 NJPW Global on Twitter

New Japan Pro Wrestling is back, folks!

Sakura Genesis returns after two years off, but some things remain the same, and the April show is built around the New Japan Cup winner challenging the champion, and this year, that means Kota Ibushi has to defend his shiny (perhaps too shiny) new IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against THE EMPIRE’s Will Ospreay.

Plus, Roppongi 3K return to challenge Suzuki-gun for the junior tag titles, THE EMPIRE has a mystery partner in trios action against LIJ, and more!

Today’s action takes place in Tokyo’s Ryogoku Sumo Hall, kicking off at a brisk 4AM Eastern / 1AM Pacific, and you can watch live on NJPW World no matter where you are.

Suzuki-gun (DOUKI, Taichi, & Zack Sabre, Jr.) over Bullet Club (Jado, Tama Tonga, & Tanga Loa) by pinfall with the European Clutch from Sabre on Loa.

Chaos (Hirooki Goto, Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, Toru Yano, & YOSHI-HASHI) over Bullet Club (Dick Togo, EVIL, KENTA, Taiji Ishimori, & Yujiro Takahashi) by pinfall with Urakusumi from Yano on Dick.

The new member of THE EMPIRE is... Toa Henare, now calling himself Aaron Henare!

THE EMPIRE (Aaron Henare, Great-O-Khan, & Jeff Cobb) over Los Ingobernables de Japon (SANADA, Shingo Takagi, & Tetsuya Naito) by pinfall with Street of Rage from Henare on SANADA.

Hiroshi Tanahashi & Satoshi Kojima over Bullet Club (Bad Luck Fale & “Switchblade” Jay White) by pinfall with High Fly Flow from Tanahashi on Fale.

Post-match, Tanahashi accepts Jay’s challenge for the NEVER Openweight Championship.

Roppongi 3K (SHO & YOH) over Suzuki-gun (El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) (c) by pinfall with Direct Drive from YOH on Kanemaru to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.

Will Ospreay over Kota Ibushi (c) by pinfall with Storm Breaker to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Ospreay cut a promo saying he wants revenge for Wrestle Kingdom and called Okada out. Shingo enters the fray and says that if Okada’s getting a shot, he deserves one too for beating the Rainmaker in New Japan Cup. Will agreed.

Enjoy the show!
