Tonight, NXT advertised the 2021 Royal Rumble winner Edge. Given the Rated R Superstar can challenge for any title, this would likely be a tease for Edge facing the NXT champion at WrestleMania.
And that’s what it was. It was still good.
The segment started with Pete Dunne, with Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch at his side, making his intentions for Finn Bálor’s NXT title known. The champ answered and dared Dunne to stand in the ring with him alone.
The Bruiserweight reluctantly agreed. That’s when Finn let him know that he’s got his title match at TakeOver: Vengeance Day.
That’s when Alter Bridge hit.
Edge joined the main event of TakeOver in the ring and let them know that NXT helped him find his passion that fueled his comeback. And because of that, and the fact he’s never held the NXT title, he’ll be watching this title match closely. If he hasn’t made a decision for who he faces at WrestleMania by then, that match could force his hand.

Odds are very slim that it happens, but it raises that status of that match either way. The fact that WWE Hall of Famer and Royal Rumble winner Edge would consider facing either Pete Dunne or Finn Bálor at Mania makes that match feel important.
And it would rule. Even if it doesn’t happen in late March, I hope we do find a way to see Edge face Bálor or Dunne at one point.
