MLW Roundup: Lio Rush vs Laredo Kid tonight in title vs title, Injustice vs Contra, more!

Let’s catch up on the latest news in MLW and preview tonight’s episode of Fusion. Lio Rush and Laredo Kid will compete in title versus title, Injustice battles the Contra Unit, and a unique opportunity has been presented to Savio Vega.

MLW title vs AAA title

MLW Fusion has a barn burner on their hands for the main event as Lio Rush will defend the MLW World Middleweight Championship against Laredo Kid. Rush wanted extra incentive, so Laredo will be putting the AAA Cruiserweight Championship on the line as well. Odds are high that the night will end with a new double champ.

If given enough time and no cheap shenanigans, this contest has match-of-the-year potential. Even if you don’t watch on the regular, this should be a contest worth keeping an eye on. I feel confident in saying it will deliver excitement, but let’s hope it exceeds those expectations and enters truly special territory.

Injustice will do battle with Contra Unit in tag team action. Myron Reed and Jordan Oliver are on the prowl for payback against Daivari and Simon Gotch. Injustice talks a big game, and this will be their chance to back it up. Contra has kicked their butts at pretty much every turn thus far, but Injustice has no quit.

In other action, ACH looks to get back on the winning track. His target will be Brian Pillman Jr. ACH is still nursing tender ribs, so Pillman may have a path to victory if he can take advantage. Calvin Tankman will wrestle as well, but MLW matchmakers are having trouble finding an opponent. MLW is offering double the purse as encouragement for someone to step up.

Also advertised in the official preview are updates on the Tim Donaghy referee controversy, Filthy Island, Alexander Hammerstone’s health after the Baklei Brawl, and Azteca Underground’s offer to buy IWA Puerto Rico. Last week, Salina de la Renta made an offer on behalf of her new boss to purchase Savio Vega’s home promotion. The following message has a familiar ring to it.

Lucha Underground viewers definitely recognize that vocabulary. Take the unique opportunity and tune in to MLW Fusion tonight.

MLW Fusion posts on YouTube Wednesdays at 7 pm ET, streams on Fubo Sports Network Friday nights at 7 pm ET and 10 pm ET, and airs on beIN SPORTS Saturday nights at 10 pm ET. You can also check out MLW streaming on demand with DAZN. In addition, MLW is broadcast in over 20 countries.

Quick hits

Richard Holliday has turned down a Caribbean Championship rematch for Savio Vega. Holliday elevated the prestige of the belt, and he believes Vega did nothing to contribute to that, except leave welts on Holliday’s marketable back.

In the ‘that escalated quickly’ category, Bu Ku Dao has been kicked out of TJP’s dojo. TJP dumped all of Dao’s belongings in the parking lot. This stems from TJP’s dissatisfaction to defeat in their tag title loss to Los Parks.

If you were wondering why Salina de la Renta did not have shoes last week, it turns out that they were stolen.

Salina and Alicia Atout were back for round two of another bickering interview (here). Salina sent a 700-page contract, which Alicia signed without fully reading. One clause buried in the paperwork is that Alicia has to workout whenever Salina demands. That led to Alicia doing 10 jumping jacks. The contract also gives Salina creative control over Alicia’s show for four years.

Exciting tease for fans of Mil Muertes. His craving for blood and gold to rebuild his throne means that he will be focusing on opponents in the PWI Top 10. The quest for Mil to take over MLW is underway.

Programming note for Fubo watchers. MLW Fusion will shift from Wednesday nights to Friday nights at 7 pm ET and 10 pm ET on that network.
