The Nightly: December 3rd, 2021

Hello Nightly!!!

It’s a double dose of Nitro! First up is the first Nitro after Clash Of The Champions, which I believe was the very last Clash Of The Champions in WCW.

La Parka and Psicosis vs. Glacier and Ernest Miller:

This may have been Glacier’s first, or at least one of his first losses at least on Nitro. They have absolutely soured on Glacier at this point.

Ultimo Dragon vs. Silver King:

Decent match.

Jeff Jarrett vs. Chris Benoit:

Alright match.

Steve McMichael vs. Eddie Guerrero:

It probably made sense for Mongo to win here, but it is weird to see him cleanly beat Eddie. What preceded this match was Arn Anderson’s famous retirement promo.

Dean Malenko vs. Alex Wright for the WCW World Television Championship:

Eddie would cause a DQ finish.

Faces Of Fear vs. Mortis and Wrath:

Fun tag match.

Chris Jericho vs. Yuji Nagata:

Solid match.

Lex Luger vs. Randy Savage:

Match ends with some DDP/Luger miscommunication, which had originated at Clash Of The Champions.

WCW Nitro: September 1st, 1997:

Chris Benoit and Steve McMichael vs. Eddie Guerrero and Jeff Jarrett:

Decent match.

Mortis vs. Silver King:

Decent match.

Yuji Nagata vs. Dean Malenko:

Good match.

Ultimo Dragon vs. La Parka:

Dragon would fight off La Parka and Sonny Onoo.

Buff Bagwell vs. Glacier:

Bagwell wins, continuing Glacier’s de-push.

Lizmark Jr. vs. Villano IV:

Alright match.

Stevie Richards vs. Damien:

Raven would attack Damien before the match. Stevie briefly tried CPR before eventually pinning Damien.

Ray Traylor vs. Prince Iaukea:

So Ray Traylor is a face now?

Alex Wright vs. Hugh Morrus:

Das Wunderkind would win after a spat with the Disco Inferno.

Lex Luger and Diamond Dallas Page vs. The Outsiders:

Match would end in more interference and miscommunication.

Of course, this Nitro is probably best known for the infamous NWO Four Horsemen parody segment. This Nitro was dedicated to Arn Anderson’s career, as he was forced to retire the previous week. The NWO would mock Arn’s retirement speech, with Syxx as Ric Flair, Kevin Nash as Arn Anderson, Buff Bagwell as Curt Hennig, and Konnan as Mongo. Hogan also leg dropped JJ Dillon, and the commentary team reacted as if a fly had landed on their table. Overall, these Nitros were pretty solid. Now that they’re headed towards Fall Brawl, the product seems a lot more focused.

On to the Nightly.
