This isn’t the fantasy booking a lot of fans were hoping for when AEW’s Tony Khan said he’d be supporting Ring of Honor’s Final Battle PPV tomorrow night (Dec. 11) in Baltimore. But it’s a logical one.
With ROH World champion Bandido out with COVID, Jonathan Gresham was without an opponent. Jay Lethal, who just signed with All Elite at Full Gear after Ring of Honor announced their hiatus and released their roster, will return to face his Foundation tag partner in the co-main event.
From Ring of Honor’s announcement:
“This match is about more than winning or losing, more than who’s the best or what championship we hold,” Lethal said. “This match is about showing the world what this era of Ring of Honor is and I can’t wait to get back into the ring with one of the best wrestlers I know tomorrow night, Jonathan Gresham.”
ROH would like to publicly thank AEW for allowing Lethal to wrestle at Final Battle: End of an Era.
It seems Bandido’s belt has been taken out of the equation, although ROH says they’ll address the World title situation on the Final Battle pre-show, which airs free at 7pm ET tomorrow on their streaming service HonorClub, YouTube and Facebook.
And if “The Franchise of ROH” isn’t who you were hoping TK would send through The Forbidden Door, there’s always the other half of the co-main... Maybe FTR, or The Young Bucks, or both can get involved in The OGK (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett)’s Tag title defense against The Briscoes?
