AEW Dynamite Preview (Nov 3, 2021): I’m a face! I swear!

All Elite Wrestling comes our way from the Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Missouri. Last week, Dynamite opened with CM Punk narrowly defeating Bobby Fish, Darby Allin dressing up and challenging MJF to a match at Full Gear, and Sammy Guevara successfully defending the TNT championship against Ethan Page and American Top Team. Britt Baker accepted the no DQ challenge from Abandon (and then defeated her on Rampage), while Danielson and Kingston had a very intense confrontation before their fantastic Rampage one-on-one match. The Lucha Bros put their tag team titles on the line at Full Gear, and FTR accepted. Hikaru Shida finally got her 50 wins when she defeated Serena Deeb in the TBS championship tournament, and Jon Moxley defeated “10” to move on in the world title eliminator tournament. Cody Rhodes refused to accept his audience deigned role as a heel, and The Dark Order defeated The Elite with the help of a marshmallowy cowboy.

This Week’s Headliner:

Cody Rhodes insists that he’s a babyface, and to prove it, he’s going to wrestle Andrade El Idolo, a man who is definitely a heel and not a secret hero in disguise for continuing to mess with Cody Rhodes. Over the past few weeks, Andrade has teamed up with unlikely ally and president of the “we hate Cody Rhodes” club (I’m the treasurer), Malakai Black. It’s more of an unofficial pairing - I don’t see a stable tag team in their future - but it has had the desired effect of really making Cody look like a chump. Tonight Cody gets the chance to take out all his frustration on Andrade.

I highly doubt this one stays shenanigan-free, especially since we’re so close to Full Gear. Malakai Black is still in the shadows, as is PAC, who is normally perfect but has chosen to help out Cody Rhodes for some reason. We all make mistakes.

The Title Scene:

The World Champion eliminator tournament semi-final between Jon Moxley and Orange Cassidy was supposed to happen tonight, but it was recently announced that Moxley has entered into inpatient alcohol treatment and will therefore be unable to continue the tournament. We wish him all the best and applaud him for doing what is right for him and his family. Wrestling is fun, but real life comes first! That being said, as of this writing, nothing has been announced to replace the bout. It is likely that OC will get a buy and move on into the final without a match, but we’ll see.

In other World Championship news, Hangman Page dressed like the Stay Puft Marshmallow man embarrassed the fluff out of The Elite last week. The match we have all been salivating thinking about for months is SO close, and you know Kenny Omega is shaking in his designer boots just thinking about it. So tonight, expect some choice words from the champ and some backstage Dark Order celebration!

TNT Champion Sammy Guevara defeated Ethan Page last week, which means that American Top Team has to choose five members of their joint faction with the Men of the Year to go five-on-five with the Inner Circle at Full Gear. We’re just over a week away from the PPV, so expect the team announcement (with lots of old men yelling at cloud vibes) tonight.

The World Women’s Champion Britt Baker defeated her undead challenger, Abadon, on Rampage last week. If she’s not a zombie - she did put her WHOLE hand in a zombie’s mouth after all - then it’s time for her to focus on her Full Gear challenger Tay Conti. Tay Conti’s tag team partner is going one-on-one with Britt’s faction member in the TBS Championship tournament, so I think it’s safe to say expect some shenanigans from the “support.” Anna Jay and Jaime Hayter are going to have to have their head on a swivel during their match tonight!

The Tag Team Championships will be on the line at Full Gear. The animosity runs deep between FTR and The Lucha Bros. I don’t think they’ll accomplish much if they come face to face before the PPV, but I wouldn’t put it past FTR to try and get some backstage beatdowns.

Other things to keep an eye on:

-MJF and Darby Allin playing dress-up.

-CM Punk doing CM Punk things.

-God admitting he’s a coward for not facing Miro.

Tune into AEW on TNT at 8pm ET to see how all this plays out.
