AEW Dynamite Preview (Oct 23, 2021): Third Time’s the Charm

All Elite Wrestling comes our way from the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando. Last week, Dynamite opened with Dante Martin taking Malakai Black to the limit, backstage Elite shenanigans, and an American Top Team/Inner Circle swear-off. The Lucha Bros lost their titles to a masked FTR, Lio Rush declared himself Dante Martin’s new tag partner, and Serena Deeb got into a backstage altercation with Hikaru Shida. The SuperKliq defeated The Dark Order, and Jungle Express got a little payback. MJF and Wardlow had another confrontation with Darby Allin and Sting. Penelope Ford defeated Keira Hogan, and Ruby Soho got some post-match revenge for Ford’s previous assault during Rampage. Hangman Adam Page made everyone cry, which is totally 100% cowboy shit, and Bryan Danielson made Bobby Fish tap, much to the displeasure of Bobby Fish.

This Week’s Headliner:

Criminal mastermind Arn Anderson has retrained Cody Rhodes. Cody isn’t just a suit pretending to be a wrestler anymore! Or something. Honestly, not totally sold on them attempting to make Cody Rhodes an underdog. Tonight Cody Rhodes attempts to defeat Malakai Black for the first time. Will the third time be the charm, or will Arn Anderson have to burn another one of Cody’s suits?

The Title Scene:

World Champion Eliminator tournament continues tonight when Bryan Danielson takes on Dustin Rhodes, and Lance Archer goes one-on-one with Eddie Kingston. These will be good matches, but the outcomes are relatively obvious. Bryan Danielson and Lance Archer are headed to the next round.

Speaking of tournaments, The TBS Championship tournament begins tonight. The bracket was announced during last night’s Rampage episode and features several first-round buy-ins from former champions and highly ranked competitors. Tonight Ruby Soho gets her revenge on Penelope Ford and a chance to be one step closer to calling herself the first-ever TBS champion.

The Tag Team Champions have a target painted on their backs by FTR. FTR has already taken their AAA tag team championships, and now their sights are set on the AEW tag team belts. Lucky for The Lucha Bros that they have PAC on their side!

The World Women’s Champion defeated Anna Jay on Rampage but had to deal with Anna Jay’s best friend and the number 1 ranked woman, Tay Conti, after the match. Tonight expect a couple of promos for the pair to help sell and hype their future confrontation. I’m sure she also has a few choice words for the TBS championship competitors.

TNT Champion has hooked up once again with his Inner Circle cohorts to face off with the loudmouths in American Top Team. At the end of the questionable old man swear-off between Jericho and Lambert, Sammy Guevara brought it all home when he said, “I’m the TNT Champion. I’m the ‘Spanish God’. I’m gonna kick all of your asses next week.” Tonight we’ll see if he makes good on the threat.

Other things to keep an eye on:

-CM Punk getting the crowd hyped and announcing his next moves.

-Miro prepping to kill Goda

-Cowboy shit

Tune into AEW on TNT at 8pm ET to see how all this plays out.
