MLW Roundup: Opera Cup tournament bracket, Warhorse, more!

New, 3 comments

The world of MLW never sleeps. Let’s catch up on the news of the week.

MLW released the brackets for the Opera Cup tournament.

MLW

The first round matchups include:

  • Davey Richards vs. Tom Lawlor
  • Bobby Fish vs. Lee Moriarty
  • TJP vs. Alex Shelley
  • Calvin Tankman vs. Matt Cross

Tom Lawlor gets no respect. The defending Opera Cup winner has to rumble against arguably the #2 man in the field. Davey Richards proved there is no rust from his lay-off when beating TJP in singles action on Fusion: ALPHA. Whoever wins between Lawlor and Richards should be the favorite to take home the trophy. On the other side of the bracket, I’m looking at Calvin Tankman using his heavyweight hustle to advance to the final. Overall, I believe Filthy Tom will become a two-time Opera Cup primo uomo.

Warhorse!

MLW is bringing in the headbanger, and he could earn a unique opportunity. Warhorse will compete in a 12-man elimination tag. Matchmaker Cesar Duran (alias Dario Cueto) stated, “A delightful reward awaits the winner or winners.”

MLW is holding their Fightland event tonight (Oct. 2) in Philadelphia. The advertised card includes:

  • Title vs. Title: Jacob Fatu vs. Alexander Hammerstone
  • MLW World Middleweight Championship: Myron Reed (c) vs. Tajiri vs. Aramis vs. Arez
  • Opera Cup quarterfinals and semifinals
  • LA Park, Hijo de LA Park, & LA Park Jr. vs. Rivera, Slice Boogie, & Dr. Julius Smokes
  • EJ Nduka, Savio Vega, Richard Holliday, Warhorse, Zenshi, & Blue Meanie vs. Ikuro Kwon, King Mo, Gino Medina, Kevin Ku, KC Navarro, & Beastman
  • Nicole Savoy vs. Holidead
  • Sea Stars (Ashley Vox & Delmi Exo) vs. Willow Nightingale & Zoey Skye
  • King Muertes mystery match
  • Alex Kane open prize fight

To clarify, this event is the TV taping. Tickets are still available for live attendance. The title versus title headliner between Jacob Fatu and Alexander Hammerstone will air on October 7 for Vice TV. The rest of the matches will air at later dates.

Last but not least, Duran will be in the house for Fightland.
