Omega title defense, Velasquez match announced for Triplemania Regia II

AAA held a press conference this afternoon in Monterrey to announce their second ever Triplemania Regia event for Sat., Dec. 4. This will be the lucha libre promotion’s second spin-off show from their Triplemania brand, which is their version of WrestleMania. The first Triplemania Regia took place in December of 2019.

At the first Triplemania Regia, Kenny Omega successfully defended his AAA Mega championship against the debuting Dragon Lee. It was announced today (Oct. 18) that Omega will put that belt on the line against El Hijo del Vikingo. Kenny’s been talking about the young luchador for a year now, and many thought the two would match up at August’s Triplemania XXIX. Instead, Andrade El Idolo challenged his fellow AEW wrestler there, grabbing headlines by bringing his future father-in-law Ric Flair to the ring with him. Now, Vikingo will get his shot. It will be Omega’s sixth defense of the title he won from Rey Fenix in October of 2019.

Cain Velasquez’s return to pro wrestling will take him to Regia II. It was confirmed at the press conference that the former UFC Heavyweight champ will team with Psycho Clown & Pagano against Rey Escorpion, Black Taurus, and a mystery partner.

AAA’s Dorian Roldan also mentioned that he plans to book Lucha Bros and Dragon Lee & Dralistico on the card, possibly against new AAA Tag champs FTR. That’s pending talks with AEW, however.

We’ll keep you posted. Excited to finally see Kenny Omega take on Hijo del Vikingo?
