Only looking at Raw for tonight.
British Bulldog vs. Owen Hart for the WWF European Championship:
Good match, but would end when Bret interjected and convinced them to stop fighting and re-form the Hart Foundation. This was a much better heel Bret promo than the previous week, and I would even say it’s his best one he ever cut as a heel. All about family values. Was certainly more heartwarming than the Walton family reunion the previous night.
El Mosco vs. Super Nova:
Nation Of Domination vs. Mike Bell and Adam O’Brien:
Jesse James vs. Jerry Fox:
Basic squash match. Afterwards, Honky Tonk Man offered Jesse James the chance to be HTM’s new protege, even offering his family heirloom guitar to the past and future Road Dogg, but Road Dogg would smash it.
Goldust vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley:
Decent match, Chyna would cause a DQ, and Pat Patterson would actually get physical with Helmsley afterwards, which causes Vince to mark out on commentary.
Bret Hart vs. Rocky Maivia for the WWF Intercontinental Championship:
Solid match, pretty cool to see Rick and Bret have a match together. If I’m not mistaken, I believe the plan was for Bret to win the title here, but Bret refused. The right choice, as while Rocky Maivia as IC champion isn’t exactly setting the world on fire, Bret was above the IC title at this point.
Overall, this was a really entertaining edition of Raw. A lot of the storytelling, including Bret’s Hart Foundation reunion promo, Austin’s first promo as an anti hero, LOD’s promo, and Mankind burning Undertaker, they were all really well done and well paced, and made Raw a fun watch.
On to the Nightly.
