AEW Dynamite Preview (Sept 9, 2020): All Out Fallout

This week All Elite Wrestling comes our way live from Jacksonville, Florida. At All Out, Moxley retained his championship, Hikaru Shida and Thunder Rosa stole the show, Kenny Omega had a complete meltdown after losing the tag team championships to FTR, Matt Hardy took a truly terrifying bump, and Chris Jericho took a bath in a giant mimosa.

Advertised for tonight:

  • Matt Hardy comments on his condition after his terrifying fall at All Out
  • Brodie Lee versus Dustin Rhodes for the TNT Championship
  • AEW Champion, Jon Moxley, speaks
  • No DQ match featuring Chris Jericho & Jake Hager versus Sonny Kiss & Joey Janela
  • New tag team champions, FTR, celebrate
  • Lucha Bros versus Jurassic Express
  • Kip “Male Crop Tops Bang” Sabian reveals his best man
  • Lance Archer, number one contender for the AEW championship, speaks

Here are six questions about AEW tonight:

1) Is Matt Hardy okay?

At All Out, Matt Hardy took a NASTY bump. Like 100% should have stopped the match level bump. Like the referee literally tried to stop the match, Matt Hardy couldn’t stand, and the doctors should have known better level bump. But he won the match, so everything’s okay! Right? *stares incredulously at the AEW executives and joins Reby’s army*

AEW brass has been trying to cover their asses since the moment it happened with “live updates” on the PPV to assure the audience that he didn’t have a concussion (Lol okay Tony) and medical updates afterward.

We know that he was in the hospital from Reby Hardy’s twitter, and we know that he has since been released and is feeling better. Tonight he addresses the bump and the fallout in the ring.

I know this man lives for Kayfabe, but I hope he takes a moment to address how SERIOUS concussions are and, frankly, apologize for continuing the match. It was dangerous and set a horrible precedent.

But more likely, we’ll just get a weird promo about being undeletable, and that will be that. At least we have Reby to keep us all honest.

2) Mr. Brodie Lee is going to kill Dustin Rhodes, right?

The Nightmare family was pretty lucky getting one over on the newly unstoppable Dark Order. To be fair, the Nightmare Family and company are actually friends and actually work well together. They’re not just cowering in fear and the promise of a better life. But tonight, in a one on one situation, Dustin Rhodes doesn’t stand a chance. Brodie Lee practically killed Cody, and Dustin is not nearly as good as Cody is (at least in this AEW universe). Plus, having Brodie Lee straight murder Dustin will only add fuel to the fire of Cody’s inevitable return. He’s got a fancy new ”badass” logo ready and everything.

I just hope Colt Cabana doesn’t mess this up for Mr. Lee too...

3) What does Jon Moxley think of his next challenger?

I’m going to go ahead and say he doesn’t think much of the Murderhawk Monster.

Here’s how it’s going to go. Moxley is going to come out and cut a promo about how MJF sucks (he does). Once he’s done with that, he’s going to turn his attention to his new challenger, but before he can say much, Jake The Snake and his pet monster will come out and spout a bunch of nonsense about how they are super tough and super mean. Moxley is going to unimpressed until one of them breaks and attacks the other. Repeat for weeks.

It’s the Jon Moxley champion formula.

4) What’s next for the AEW Women’s roster?

Hikaru Shida beat Thunder Rosa at All Out, retaining her championship and, frankly, having the night’s best match. On the other hand, Britt and Swole had a lackluster finale considering the weeks of storyline work that went into their feud. Regardless, it looks like the two (lol yep it’s just TWO) ongoing feuds in the women’s division have been wrapped up, so the big question is, “What’s next?”

Honestly, I have no idea. Hopefully, we get some more screen time with Nyla and Vicki since we’ve barely seen a thing since their team-up announcement. I don’t necessarily want to see Nyla versus Shida anytime soon, but more Nyla Rose on Dynamite is always preferable.

Big Swole has proven that she is not only crushes in the ring (and in the dental office) but that she capable of carrying a feud and cutting a sick promo. Nyla is number one in the rankings (after Shida, of course), but Swole is hot on her tails in the number two position. A Swole/Shida feud sounds like an excellent way to capitalize on all the work they both have been doing.

Or we’ll get nothing. It’s really a crapshoot with the women’s division.

5) Will we see The Cleaner tonight?

After losing the tag team titles to FTR, Kenny Omega had a whole ass freak out. We all knew the heel turn was coming, but bro didn’t even take it out on Hangman. He just let me lie there in a puddle of his own failure. A chair shot would have been more civil! Omega left the ring, literally ranting and raving, found The Young Bucks (heel turn also imminent) and all but dragged them into his car, saying, “it’s time for a clean break.” Hearing Omega say the word “clean” repeatedly certainly made me, and I’m sure the rest of the All Out audience, think of his iconic run as “The Cleaner.”

Now, The Bucks didn’t get into the car and seem to be trying to talk Kenny down from his freak out, but they failed. Tonight I expect Kenny to be full heel while The Bucks are still teetering on the edge. Perhaps the FTR celebration will push them over? Or maybe Hangman tries to apologize? Regardless of how it happens, we’re about to get Heel Elite, and I am hype!

*Cue Evil Superkicks*

6) Will Sabian’s best man be wearing a crop top?

He sure better be! They bang!
