During the eight-man tag match featuring Dark Order on AEW’s All Out PPV Saturday night (Sept. 5), legendary commentator Jim Ross noticed Anna Jay adjusting her gear after a spot where Stu Grayson restrained her from going after Brandi Rhodes. On the broadcast, JR then said:
“Did Anna Jay have a wardrobe malfunction, or is that wishful thinking in my book?”
The remark drew a mix of eye-rolling and criticism on social media, with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp asking the pertinent question “what does this add?” You can debate whether this was simply a joke better left in The Attitude Era or part of a bigger issue with Ross’s occasional online lasciviousness & on-air missteps. But it’s hard to argue it aided the story of Dark Order vs. the Rhodes family.
Whatever your take, Ross apologized for the remark. But probably because he also teased his critics for taking his “weak attempt at humor” seriously while saying “sorry,” he later deleted the tweet.

The moment I heard him say that comment, my first thought was “you can’t say that”.
Very creepy and doesn’t have a place on a broadcast in 2020.
JR should know better. pic.twitter.com/schZqeiANA
22 year old Jay has not said anything about the issue. Her only social media activity since All Out has been kayfabe, continuing her issue with Brandi.
That probably helped this speed along to its internet expiration date. But now, several mainstream tabloids like The New York Daily News and The Sun have picked up the story.
Will coverage from outside the wrestling bubble lead to another comment from JR or his bosses at AEW? Or will it again blow over?
We shall see.
