AEW Dynamite Preview (Sept 30, 2020): The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend

All Elite Wrestling comes our way live from Jacksonville, Florida. Last week, Miro made his in-ring debut, Adam Page won his singles match (while Kenny watched), Matt Jackson smashed Schiavone’s phone, Orange Cassidy failed to win the TNT Championship, Cody returned with a brand new do, Private Party mixed it up with The Inner Circle, FTR made some enemies, Diamante & Ivelisse were no match for the team of Thunder Rose & Hikaru Shida, MJF & Jericho made nice, and Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley main evented.

This Week’s Headliner:

Last week The AEW Champion, Jon Moxley, was supposed to face off with the number one contender to his title, Lance Archer. Unfortunately, Lance Archer was unable to appear on Dynamite. (Wrestling during a pandemic...who knew that would be bad?) Fortunately, The Mad King, Eddie Kingston, stepped up! Of course, nothing can be easy, and the match quickly dissolved into chaos as members of Kingston’s faction, Moxley’s buddies, and Lance Archer’s crew decided to get involved.

Over this past week, Moxley sent Kingston a contract stating that he will grant any one of Kington’s choosing a title match on tonight’s show. Moxley may have thought he was baiting Kingston himself, but if there is one thing you can say about The Mad King is that he’s not stupid. He’s not 100% from the match last week, but he has a few friends who could sure do with a title shot.

Now the only question is, who will Kingston pick?*

*Pentagon. It’s going to be Pentagon.

The Title Scene:

Well, we had a couple of good weeks where The AEW Women’s Champion was featured, talked about, and, gasp, actually got to wrestle! But it seems as though AEW creative has once again run out of ideas for their women’s division. Strangely, AEW Dark is doing an excellent job of featuring multiple women’s matches and competitors, but they just can’t seem to figure out long term storytelling for the division on the main show.

What’s going on with Ivelisse and Diamante? They lost to the champions - does that mean we won’t see them for weeks? Is Thunder Rosa going to join the AEW roster part-time, or is her guest spot truly over? Who is Hikaru Shida’s next championship opponent?

I mean, at the VERY least, let her do a weekly open challenge or something!

SOMETHING!!

While FTR are fantastic tag team wrestlers, they are not so good at being likable. Ever since they won the Tag Team Championships, they have been dunking on anyone and everyone in the division. They may not be “nice,” but they certainly are magnanimous. Under the advisement of Tully Blanchard, the duo are going to do an open challenge of sorts, a “brush with greatness” if you will. The Best Friends tried to get in on the action last week, but while FTR are magnanimous, they aren’t big fans of spontaneity. They instead will face off with SCU tonight, and then maybe, MAYBE, The Best Friends can get a title shot. Maybe.

The big question tonight is if SCU will be able to shake off the ring rust and defeat the champions under the strictly imposed twenty-minute time limit?

Brandi is out here calling Brodie Lee “Daddy,” and now Brodie wants to put a dog collar on her husband. The TNT Championship just got real kinky, y’all!

Last week, Cody made his...I want to say ridiculous, over the top, and unnecessary return to Dynamite. We all knew he was going to return sooner rather than later after that embarrassing defeat at the hands of Mr. Lee (Hollywood waits for no man). Hell, we even knew we were going to see a “darker” side of Cody after he released his new updated family crest. What we perhaps didn’t expect is a dramatic new entrance and a questionable box dye. Sometimes wrestling really is just good versus evil color theory.

Tonight we hear from Cody as he answers Brodie’s challenge. Spoiler: it’s going to be a yes.

Other Things to Keep an Eye On:

-Ricky Starks and Darby Allin are finally going to come to blows

-Isiah Kassidy faces off with Chris Jericho

-The Triumphant return of Dr. Britt Baker, DMD

-Orange Cassidy presumably continues to make a mockery of Dark Order by sounding defeating 10

-More Miro best man shenanigans

-The Young Bucks being mean to the staff

-Kenny Omega trying to convince us all that he is fine on his own and not bothered at all that Hangman keeps winning his singles matches
