AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR SEPT. 23
It was an upset in two minutes flat, we were back on the freeway, foot to the mat. I can’t understand it; we had it down pat. It’s very upsetting, could we leave it at that? We all had positions; we each had a role, and I have to liveblog this here pro wrestling show.
The show opens with a memorial graphic for the late Road Warrior Animal.
Thence to the intro video.
Kip Sabian makes his entrance, flanked by Penelope Ford and gets on the mic to hype up the in-ring AEW debut of Miro.
Joey Janela and Sonny Kiss get an inset promo where Janela warns Sabian that he’s making a mistake marrying Penelope Ford, but he and Sonny are here because they want to win and they’re on the express to victory.
Joey Janela & Sonny Kiss vs. Kip Sabian & Miro
Sabian and Kiss to start, test of strength, Kip turns it around but doesn’t stay on him. Go-behind, forearm to the back of the head, Sonny slides up, up and over, arm drags, Matrix evasion into a tijeras! She’s fired up, handspring into a Shotei in the corner and Sabian runs over to make the tag.
Janela legal as well, Kip tags right back in, whip across, Joey slides out and Sonny tagged in and gets a crossbody for two! Isolating Sabian, working him over, soon enough Kip gets away and makes the tag! Miro in hot, catching Janela on a crossbody and turning it into a huge Bossman Slam! Tag back out, Sabian cuts Sonny off and works her over in the corner.
Tag to Miro, drop toehold sets him up for a huge gutwrench suplex! Another one, feeling the energy of the crowd before he draws Kiss up and hammers him with an uppercut for a shockingly deep two! Scoop and a slam, Kip with a slingshot senton atomico and Miro adds a kick! Penalty Kick of his own, cover... NO GOOD!
Standing armbar, trapping Kiss, she reaches... TAG MADE! Joey comes in fired up but referee Aubrey Edwards didn’t see the tag and warns him off! Sabian drags Sonny to the corner, Miro makes the tag and starts working her over, choking her in the ropes! Kip back in, Kiss reverses a suplex, small package for two, trading elbows, splits into a palm strike!
He kicks Sabian into the corner, tag made and the Bad Boy comes in with lariats! Forearm to Miro on the apron, he comes in but Janela low-bridges him to the floor and he comes up lame! Joey with a Penalty Kick from the apron, he’s fired up, Kip reverses a whip and Miro back body drops the Bad Boy into the crowd!
Flapjack puts Sabian over the barricade but Janela counters! Dive goes short, Miro hammers him with clubbing blows but Sonny comes off the apron with a dropkick to wipe him out! Joey’s fired up, back inside, duck a lariat... SUPERKICK! ONLY TWO! Joey off the ropes, Miro cuts him off and throws him into Sonny!
A kick lays Joey out, Sabian throws Kiss back in, springboard stomp gets a boot up! Sonny throwing desperate forearms, but Miro pops him up, Kip with a lungblower... JOEY JANELA BREAKS IT UP! Miro and Sabian throw Joey out of the ring like a sack of potatoes! Calling for it... MACHKA KICK! Miro calls for it...
Kip Sabian & Miro win by submission with the Accolade from Miro on Sonny Kiss.
Eddie Kingston comes to the ring and gets on the mic.
He wants the hard camera to stay on him, no camera changes. If you don’t like social media and don’t check it, it’s him and Moxley tonight for the world title. He was never eliminated from the Casino Battle Royal, and eighteen years say he deserves this shot. He and Jon Moxley used to be cut from the same cloth, but Jon sold out and went to the land of sports entertainers.
Eddie stayed with the fighters and the outlaws and he didn’t sell his soul to the devil. So before he puts Mox down and takes his title, he wants to look in his eyes.
Enter Jon Moxley.
They go face-to-face and referees swarm to break them up as we go to break.
Back from commercial, commentary hypes tonight’s show up for us, and Kenny Omega joins the desk for this next match.
“Hangman” Adam Page vs. Evil Uno
A bunch of other Dark Order members, including Colt Cabana, Anna Jay, and John Silver, watch from the stage.
Collar and elbow, Uno with a wristlock, rolling it over, Page reverses to a hammerlock, shift to a side headlock, shot off, shoulder block gets a shoulder block and Evil wins the exchange! Drop down, big boot, chops in the corner as Hangman fights back in! Snap suplex for two, fireman’s carry drop and Adam is fired up!
Pumphandle, into a fallaway slam, only two! Trading chops, Uno with a back suplex, Page back body drops him over the ropes and knocks him down with the triangle forearm before diving on him with a plancha! Back inside, Evil turns the tide and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Page is down and out on the floor as Uno tells the Dark Order to head to the back. When he comes back over, Hangman slams him into the apron! Back inside, big fallaway slam into the kip-up, shooting star press... NO GOOD! Charging lariats, Evil gets a big boot in return and heads up top... SENTON ATOMICO GETS A TIGHT TWO!
Looking for a powerbomb, Page shoves him off, they trade lariats, big elbow from Uno, Hangman hits another lariat! Back and forth, Adam with a Tenryu Powerbomb... NOT ENOUGH! To the apron, slingshot in...
“Hangman” Adam Page wins by pinfall with Buckshot.
We see footage from earlier of Tony Schiavone waiting outside to interview the Young Bucks.
Matt Jackson answers the door and says he knows people have noticed them being a little out of character and they’ll admit they were out of line. They never should have superkicked Alex Marvez or Mike Posey (who he mocks and barely remembers their names), but he hopes people understand and know that they’ve lost out on opportunities and lost friends.
The discussion turns to FTR and Matt gets upset and asks Tony for his phone, which he smashes into the door jamb a few times. He tries to jam some money (for an upgrade) in Schiavone’s breast pocket but it’s not a real pocket (welcome to my world, pal), so he just throws the wad of money at him and we go to break.
Back from commercial in time for entrances.
Mr. Brodie Lee (c) vs. Orange Cassidy (AEW TNT Championship)
Before the match begins, John Silver stomps on Cassidy’s jacket and gets his t-shirt thrown at him for good measure. Anna Jay gets on the apron to jaw at Orange and he puts his sunglasses on her. Lee takes the glasses and throws them on the mat!
Bell rings, Orange puts his hands in his pockets and starts throwing those deadly disdainful kicks of his! Brodie stomps his foot and drops him with a slap before throwing the glasses out of the ring! More stomps, roll under, no hands dropkick and Lee falls to the floor and regroups with the Dark Order!
Cassidy off the ropes, trust fall tope but Dark Order catches him, Brodie off the ropes... MR. BRODIE LEE BIG MAN TOPE! Taking Orange around ringside, chopping away, throwing him back inside and dropping an elbow on him! A chop lays him out and Cassidy goes to the floor where the Dark Order swarm as the Exalted One keeps referee Paul Turner distracted!
Back inside, slingshot senton atomico, dumping Orange out again after! Again the Dark Order put boots to him! Back inside, jockeying for position, Lee hits the Truck Stop... NO DICE! We go to break with Brodie well in control.
Back from commercial, Lee is still in control, half nelson suplex just dumps Orange across the ring! Cassidy having trouble staying on his feet but referee Paul Turner won’t call it. Orange keeps falling but it’s a ruse and he gets a schoolboy for two! Passing Brodie into the corners, float out of a powerbomb attempt, low bridge!
Cassidy hits the elbow strike dive, back in, and again! Again back inside, John Silver tries to hit him with the belt but Orange ducks and Ten gets it! Back inside, DDT countered into a Stunner! Up top, diving DDT and Lee is absolutely staggered! Cassidy slow to capitalize, but he kips up, fired up, off the ropes, Penalty Kick!
Another Penalty Kick, Brodie roars and rises... TRUCK STOP COUNTERED INTO A DDT! AIR RAID CRASH BRINGS ORANGE WITHIN A HAIR’S BREADTH OF WINNING THE TITLE! Silver runs in again, Orange Punch after he runs him off but Lee counters with a powerbomb! Wind it up...
Mr. Brodie Lee wins by pinfall with a discus lariat to retain the AEW TNT Championship.
Post-match, the lights go down and Cody Rhodes’ music hits!
CODY IS BACK WITH DARK HAIR AND WEARING ALL BLACK! He throws Silver off the stage, destroys Five, lariat for Ten! A back elbow staggers Five... CODY CUTTER! He posts Five’s leg before dragging him back into the middle of the ring! Spinning toehold into the figure four leglock!
Point made, we go to break.
Backstage, Brodie Lee is supposed to be interviewed but he just cuts a promo.
He’s mad that Cody took five weeks off while he was here doing the work and he asks if he saw what he did to Dustin and what Anna Jay did to Brandi. He asks what kind of man let’s his wife post Instagram thirst traps while calling him daddy and says Rhodes is a coward. He’s got a dog collar and he says he’s gonna wrap it around Cody’s neck.
He gives Rhodes one week to answer him.
Matt Hardy & Private Party make their entrance and Matt gets on the mic.
He says he’s been replaying the attack on him from last week over and over to figure out who attacked him, and last Wednesday he had a heated conversation with MJF, a “discussion” with Brodie Lee, and everybody knows how much he hates the Inner Circle. All he can really remember is that whoever did it was wearing a mask and he was hit with either a piece of steel or a pipe or maybe a bat.
How coincidental was it that moments later Chris Jericho and Jake Hager stroll into the scene, Jericho brandishing a bat? As of right now, Y2J is his prime suspect. He says Private Party tore the house down with the Inner Circle last week and he’s proud of them, but the only reason they lost was because of the bat.
And what’s worse, Chris tried to permanently injure Kassidy, and that’s why he’ll always be known as an asshole.
Enter Chris Jericho, Floyd in hand and joined by Ortiz, Santana, and Jake Hager.
Jericho gets on the mic and says Sammy Guevara isn’t here because of what Hardy did to him... but actually he lied, and Guevara’s back right now! He tells Matt that he knows him better than to think that he’d attack him from behind when everybody tunes in because they know what kind of a son of a bitch he is and he’d take him out face-to-face if he was gonna take him out.
But if he wants to get taken out with a bat, he can do that right now? Hardy says he can go for it and he’d fight all of them if they’ll clear him. Private Party tell him to cool it and Marq Quen says he’s cleared AND he laid Jericho out last week. Isiah Kassidy gets on the mic and says he appreciates them having his back, but this is all him and he’s got this.
He calls Chris out and says he’s beaten him not once, but twice, so as of right now, today, on his boy’s birthday, he’s issuing a one-on-one challenge for next week. He gets it, Jericho is a legend and nobody thinks he can win, but what if? What if a young, 23-year-old kid from the streets of Brooklyn beats Chris Jericho?
What if, next week, he makes Chris Jericho his Le Champion Bitch?
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, Tony Schiavone interviews Tully Blanchard and FTR in the ring.
Tully says normally the rule is title matches go 60 minutes, but he’s looked into it and he’s having it changed to 20 minutes for the tag titles, and they get to pick their opponents, so next week it’ll be FTR defending against SCU. And furthermore, anything that isn’t SCU winning will count as a victory on FTR’s record.
As far as who’s up next after SCU, Best Friends had an impressive win last week, but that was a glorified backyard match, and that’s all they are, is backyard comedians.
Enter Best Friends.
Trent? gets on the mic and says what they did last week wasn’t a match, it was a war. But since both teams are here, why not just do the twenty minute challenge now? FTR agree to go and call for a referee!
They’re all ready to go but FTR back off because it’s obvious Best Friends aren’t 100%, so they should rest up and maybe give Tully a call in a few weeks to get their title shot.
Chuck Taylor gets on the mic and says at least Ortiz and Santana didn’t run from a fight like a couple of weenies. Snap zoom hug!
Diamante & Ivelisse vs. Hikaru Shida & Thunder Rosa
Ivelisse and Diamante running hot from the jump, taking Rosa out and working Shida over! Hikaru fires back, backbreaker on Diamante! Action to the floor, Thunder and Shida sandwich Diamante with strikes! Back inside, front suplex splash, cover for two, Diamante whip into the corner, Rosa with arm drags! Off the ropes, big senton, only two!
Heels turn the tide and Ivelisse punches the hell out of Thunder before choking her! Drawing her up, Blue Thunder Driver for two sends us to break!
Back from commercial, Shida fighting back, wheelbarrow countered into a Stunner and Ivelisse follows up with a wheelbarrow DDT that Rosa breaks the pin up on! Ivelisse ducks the Falcon Arrow and a knee leaves Hikaru out on her feet! Scorpion Kick... SO CLOSE! Assisted shiranui, Rosa makes the save! She dumps Ivelisse and follows after her!
Diamante looking for a Yoshi Tonic but Thunder comes in and hits a Death Valley Driver on her! Shida capitalizes, she does the deal but Ivelisse breaks the cover up! Rosa fights her out of the ring again, Hikaru off the ropes...
Hikaru Shida & Thunder Rosa win by pinfall with the sliding knee from Shida on Diamante.
Backstage, Chris Jericho is interviewed.
He says he’s got a lot of respect for Isiah Kassidy showing some balls and taking matters into his own hands, and some day he’s gonna be a big star here in AEW, but that day isn’t next week. Next week, the only shot he’s gonna feel is coming from Le Champion’s fists.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman rolls up and says he’s gotta be honest, the fact that that dribbling runt would disrespect him is deplorable. Y2J says that means a lot coming from him, MJF says that him saying that means a lot coming from him, they call each other great over and over before simultaneously asking why the other called him a loser last week.
They bicker about how and where they saw it, before making up and telling each other they’re alright.
Commentary hypes up the next couple shows and we go to break.
Eddie Kingston vs. Jon Moxley (c) (AEW World Championship)
Kingston cautious early, light on his feet, collar and elbow gets him a side headlock and the takeover but Moxley reverses to a headscissors! Circling, test of strength, Eddie in control and forcing Jon to a knee. Mox to his feet, kick his way out of it and he applies a hammerlock. Kingston, cool and collected, makes the ropes for the break and then piefaces the champion!
Trading palm strikes and chops, the crack of flesh on flesh ringing out across the arena! Moxley backs him into the ropes but Eddie throws an enzuigiri and follows it up with a lariat! Throwing Jon out of the ring, he takes the barricade awkwardly on a shoulder and the War King claws at his face! Grabbing his pants, forearm to the kidney, rabbit punches in a side headlock!
Mox puts him into the apron but Kingston throws him into the timekeeper’s area and dumps the timekeeper’s table on him to send us to break!
Back from commercial, Kingston has a Stretch Plum locked on! Shifting to a reverse chinlock, Moxley posts to his feet and they trade chops! Eddie taking his time, squaring up with him, laying chops in, off the ropes for a boot but Mox fires off a lariat right after! Referee Bryce Remsburg administering the standing ten count, Jon knocks Kingston to the floor and dives on him!
Snap suplex on the floor, Back inside, Moxley heads up top and dives but nobody’s home! Roll through, cravate knees... PILEDRIVER! WAR KING GETS A FOOT ON THE ROPES! Corner lariat, mounted overhead elbows but Eddie gets under him, Tenryu Powerbomb... ONLY A NEARFALL! Duck the Backfist to the Future, but Moxley can’t capitalize!
Trading shots, pain and suffering written on both men’s face! German suplex gets a Saito Suplex, another Saito... JON MOXLEY KICKS OUT! Drawing Jon up, chops in the corner, Mox firing back, Kingston stumbles away but fires up, Backfist, Moxley swats it away! Sleeper hold applied, shifting to Saka Otoshi, leaning back in it....
Jon Moxley wins by submission with Saka Otoshi to retain the AEW World Championship.
Post-match, the Lucha Brothers attack as commentary points out that Eddie didn’t tap, he passed out. Will Hobs makes the save, big spinning spinebuster on Rey Fenix! Elbows for Penta el Zero M and Eddie but the Lucha Brothers come back with stereo superkicks!
Darby Allin makes the save, hammering the heels with skateboard shots to the midsection! Ricky Starks spears him to oblivion and puts boots to him! Taz makes his way to ringside as the brawl continues. Starks beats Allin with his own skateboard as Kingston cradles Moxley’s unconscious body, clearly not done with him yet.
Ricky hits Roshambo on Darby! Eddie jams a finger into Moxley’s carotid!
That’s the show, folks!
