Earlier today, William Regal promised us not one but two MAJOR announcements for tonight’s NXT.
The main announcement is a new type of gauntlet match to crown a new #1 contender for Finn Bálor’s title. It is a standard gauntlet match, but it starts with two men in the ring and then a new wrestler is added every four minutes. They can only win by pin or submission and the last man standing challenges Finn at TakeOver on Oct. 4.
William Regal said it would be five people, but the video they played showed more than that so we don’t exactly know who’s in it yet.
#WWENXT's roster is too stacked to do a regular No. 1 Contender's match for @FinnBalor's #NXTTitle.— WWE NXT (@WWENXT) September 17, 2020

The other announcement wasn’t announced at the same time by Regal itself, but it was likely the women’s battle royal to crown the #1 contender for Io Shirai’s title at TakeOver. That will also happen next week.
Not an announcement, but to round things off for next week, we also get a returning Jake Atlas squaring off against the man who put him on the shelf for a few weeks Tommaso Ciampa. Atlas returned with more fire than we normally see from him this week.
We’ll have a much clearer picture of the TakeOver card after next week’s episode. With the show only two and a half week’s away, we’d pretty much have to.
Thoughts on the unique gauntlet match? Picks for the women’s battle royal? Is Jake Atlas getting his ass kicked again? Let us know in the comments below.
