Jon Moxley successfully defended the AEW world championship against Darby Allin in the main event of last night’s (Aug. 5) episode of Dynamite. The story of the match was about Moxley’s reluctance to unleash his full level of violence on Allin. Despite his hesitance, the champ eventually had to go for the kill because Allin had tremendous heart and would not stay down. In addition to that, MJF interfered and almost cost Moxley the title by busting him open with the title.
From day one in AEW, Moxley seemed to embrace extreme violence for the sake of extreme violence. His crazy barbed wire and mouse trap filled match against Kenny Omega last year at Full Gear is exactly what I’m talking about. That’s why I was a little thrown off with Moxley showing some sympathy for Darby Allin last night.
But it didn’t take long for Moxley to remind me that he has not gone soft. In a matter of seconds, right after Dynamite went off the air, Moxley sold his upcoming championship defense against MJF on Sept. 5 at All Out by saying the following:
SOCIAL EXCLUSIVE@JonMoxley respects the fight in @DarbyAllin. However, Moxley has a message for @The_MJF.

“That kid’s got balls. That kid’s got heart. And it’s a little scrambled in my brain right now. I’m not sure exactly what happened, but I got a pretty good idea. There’s a kid out there with no heart. And even if he did, it stops beating real soon. He’s a dead man.”
I didn’t really understand why Darby Allin was rushed into the AEW rankings and into this championship match against Moxley, but all it took was listening to Moxley here for the pieces to click into place. Allin and MJF are complete opposites, essentially, and Moxley has already flipped the switch back to extreme violence as he looks ahead to the heartless MJF.
I’m now sold on this match, and I think MJF should be soiling his pants.
Do you think this is an effective way to start building up towards Moxley vs. MJF at All Out?
