Mr. Brodie Lee’s epic TNT Championship win to dethrone Cody Rhodes shook up the rankings a little bit. Mr. Brodie went from #4 into the championship slot. Cody moved over to the top 5 at #3 and pushed Brian Cage down one spot to #4.
Cody at #3 is fair. He has triple the wins of Cage, so nobody outside of Team Taz should be upset about that. Cody behind Archer can be debated. In Archer’s favor, he has ripped off a bunch of wins for a nice streak, while Cody is coming off a loss where he looked completely outmatched. In Cody’s favor, he has the head-to-head advantage over Lance Archer, and his resume as TNT champ is much more impressive than steamrolling winless jobbers. I’d put Cody at #2, but I understand him falling after that ugly loss. That could put doubt in the voters’ minds that Cody could beat Archer in a rematch.
A medical update for Cody is expected on Thursday night Dynamite this week. It will be interesting to see how Cody’s future unfolds. He could try for a quick rematch and lose. That would leave Cody in the same directionless lurch prior to the TNT Championship when Cody couldn’t challenge for the AEW World Championship per stipulation of losing to Chris Jericho last year. On the other hand, Cody could win that rematch and glory be restored in the Nightmare Family kingdom. On the third hand, Cody may be forced to take time off to recover from that brutal beating at the hands of Mr. Brodie.
Women:

No changes for the women this week. Big Swole will have a 3-on-1 handicap match against Dr. Britt Baker DMD, Reba, and Penelope Ford on Thursday night. A win by Swole would the close the gap toward a title shot. She’ll have to wait in line behind Thunder Rosa, who is coming in to challenge Hikaru Shida at All Out on September 5.
Tag Team:

No movement in the tag team rankings this week. Thursday night will determine the #1 contender for the champs at All Out. A gauntlet match will feature the top four squads. The order will be based on the rankings. #4 Natural Nightmares versus #3 Young Bucks, winner versus #2 Best Friends, winner vs #1 FTR.
Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
