MLW Roundup: New COVID test could clear way for return to the ring, mystery man revealed, more!

Let’s catch up on the week’s news in MLW and preview Saturday night’s episode of MLW Underground.

The big news this week is a new COVID-19 test from Yale. The FDA approved this saliva-based virus detector. Results can be provided within hours. The SalivaDirect test has used the NBA as its case study, and accuracy is in the 95% range.

The reason this is big news for MLW is that it would be a path to provide safer precautions in coming back for live events. MLW has been holding out to protect their wrestlers and personnel. This new test is the breakthrough CEO Court Bauer has been waiting for. MLW may be back with fresh matches very soon.

Pulp Fusion

MLW’s storylines are full speed ahead in Pulp Fusion. The mystery man studying Contra was revealed and Team Filthy is still searching for Dominic Garrini.

The format of Pulp Fusion is a quick cut montage of promos intermixed with each other. Let’s break it down.

  • Unsolved Filthy Mysteries is looking for information on the whereabouts of Dominic Garrini. There is a $5,000 reward for information. “If you wish, you need not give your name. Although, then we’ll keep the money and probably find you anyways.” There will be a police composite sketch next week that could lead to his location.
  • Kevin Von Erich has big news from Hawaii. MLW is going back to work. Ross and Marshall grappled on the grass, and a little white dog wanted a piece of the action.
  • Alicia Atout was back with another interview with Richard Holliday. She was immediately rude to the Caribbean Champion, since his father/lawyer threatened to sue her if she didn’t have him back this week. Holliday provided pre-written questions to help the confused Canadian. Holliday interviewed himself to show her how its done. Holliday offered to ship Dynastic Coffee to help Atout be better at her job. They bickered back and forth.
  • Logan Creed was revealed to be the mystery man watching Contra tape, except his focus might not be only Contra. There was also footage of the Dynasty on his TV.
  • Salina de la Renta bought a helicopter. Her bodyguard was in the backseat. Salina called Konnan a sucker for crying about her not selling Promociones Dorado to AAA. Salina then received a phone call from CEO Court Bauer about another show.
  • Alexander Hammerstone was packing his supplements into a suitcase in case of a last minute call from MLW about Wrestle Island. He was concerned about testing. Not for COVID, but the other testing.
  • Myron Reed claimed that Injustice is the top group in the world. He is ready to defend the Middleweight Championship against anyone. Bring on the best talent in the world. Jordan Oliver wants a Heavyweight title shot.
  • LA Park’s daughters danced, while papa Park held a sign with a tweak to his Spanish catchphrase. Instead of, “Before they shut off my mic, go f**k your mothers,” it was, “Before they finish dancing, go f**k your mothers.

Logan Creed is the big surprise going after Contra. By process of elimination, that’s who I was figuring. Big plans look to be in his future. Going after Contra will be no easy task, but I’m all for a fast track to a title shot for Creed. It will be a nice scalp on Jacob Fatu’s mantel as Contra continues their reign of terror.

MLW Underground

CM Punk is here! He will have a promo before debuting next week. The preview is light on match details. Only one bout is specifically mentioned, Fuego Guerrera vs Ikuto Hidaka. There might be a second match with Christopher Daniels and Jerry Lynn as a team. Promos from Mike Awesome and CW Anderson & Simon Diamond are also advertised.

MLW’s weekly program (Fusion, Anthology, and Underground) airs on beIN SPORTS Saturday nights at 10 pm ET / 7 pm ET. New episodes are posted on YouTube Saturdays at 6:05 pm ET. You can also check out MLW streaming on DAZN. In addition, MLW is broadcast in over 20 countries.

Quick hits

MLW still believes there was an inside man that aided the Contra Unit’s takeover. “After an extensive investigation, the league believes someone aided CONTRA Unit in bypassing key security points at the arenas. Someone helped give them credentials to be near the production trucks to hijack the broadcast feed.” I wouldn’t put it past Rich Bocchini to be the culprit. He seems like he could be easily intimidated or blackmailed to assist Contra.

A $5,000 reward has been offered for information regarding the missing Dominic Garrini. He disappeared in the jungles of Brazil. Last known footage of the Team Filthy member came on last week’s Pulp Fusion. Luckily, there may be a crack in the case via confession from a former MMA fighter. “The New York Bad Ass” Phil Baroni should be receiving a phone call from detectives.

MLW updated that Baroni has been ruled out as a suspect.

Tom Lawlor will be back with NJPW for matches in the USA. While waiting, Lawlor has taken his training to the trees. He may be preparing to enter the jungle and find Garrini himself.

MLW locked in a clothing deal with NERDS. The exclusive collection will include t-shirts, jackets, and other items.

We’ll close with a throwback photo of Ross Von Erich as a heavyweight.

If Ross ever wants a quick return to being jacked and juicy, perhaps he should invest in Alexander Hammerstone merch.

Who do you think is the inside man for Contra?
