AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR AUG. 12
Breathe in the life of the summmer’s death as the orange and red breathe their first breath, so welcome as they’re burning through. We all begin to burn, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with the intro video.
The Young Bucks make their entrance and the Dark Order attack them from behind! Their opponents come out to get in the ring and we’ve got a match!
Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson) vs. Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)
Uno and Nick to start, Jackson finding himself on the back foot as the Dark Order work him over. Matt ives off the stage to take the pressure off his brother but gets taken out in turn as they keep working Nick over. Matt gets the tag after a minute and now Grayson finds himself on the wrong end of double teams as the Bucks start their heat segment.
Uno gets worked over too, Stu catches Matt out and tags Evil in for the Everest German Suplex! Working Jackson over, quick tags, to the apron for more violence and the Dark Order remain in control for some time. Uno and Matt trading chops, Jackson fighting out of the corner, Grayson trips him up but gets posted hard!
Matt goes under the ring to evade the Dark Order goons at ringside, Uno catches him and hits a wicked neckbreaker before blowing Nick a kiss! Matt with a spear, clear the way, Grayson tags in and Evil drops him with a big boot! Poison Frankensteiner... MATT MAKES THE TAG! Nick in hot with kicks aplenty, a bulldog/lariat combo, slingshot X-Factor into a moonsault off the apron but Stu catches him!
Nick throws him over the barricade, superkick staggers Uno... AND HE CUTS GRAYSON OUT OF MIDAIR WITH ANOTHER SUPERKICK! Bucks running doubleteams back in the ring, slingshot frog splash and a standing moonsault... NOPE! Springboard senton atomico... EVIL UNO GETS HIS FOOT ON THE ROPES! Grayson with a sick springboard Frankensteiner, overhead belly-to-belly puts Nick into Matt, up top... CANNONBALL / 450 SPLASH COMBO CAN’T PUT THE YOUNG BUCKS DOWN!
Evil tags in, suplex floated over, Nick gets caught... CHASING THE DRAGON BUT MATT MAKES THE SAVE! Grayson taking Matt up the entry, throwing him into the entrance tunnel and posting the other Dark Order boys to block his reentry. Hoisting Nick up in a Gory Special, he dives over it...
Young Bucks win by pinfall with a folding press from Nick Jackson on Evil Uno.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman comes out of his dressing room and compliments his new gum guy after getting a piece.
Nina pipes up to take credit for it but he tells her to stay quiet until spoken to and his whole entourage gets moving down the hallway.
Commentary hypes tonight’s card up.
We’re told we’re going to get wrestlers sharing their favorite tag teams throughout the night and we start with the tag champs. Kenny Omega names his favorite tag team as the Young Bucks, and Hangman Page says he was going to say he and Omega are his favorite team.
MJF and his entourage make their entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Maxwell Jacob Friedman and his entourage are in the ring with a red carpet rolled out and a podium set up.
He implores us to use some hashtags and berates Nina for not smiling enough before passing the floor to her to show us his polling numbers, wherein he wins 500% of the vote and Jon Moxley wins a mere -1000%. But it’s not about numbers, there’s more important things on the docket and he cares about our well being.
Dictator Jon has made it abundantly clear he doesn’t care about us, because he’s not here, but Max says he’ll always be here for us. He says Mox is in uncharted territory, he’s not used to dealing with someone more talented than him or who won’t happily look up at the lights for him. But he wants to make him feel comfortable enough to show up at his job, so he has some of his boys move the podium so he can lie down in the middle of the ring.
He asks if Moxley is in his comfort zone yet and says he didn’t start this campaign because of him, but just because this great company deserves quality leadership, and Jon might be a great pro wrestler, but he’s no leader. He’s just a rabid dog chasing cars and he wouldn’t know what do with one if he caught it, but the problem is he caught the best car on earth, the AEW title.
But if he wants to prove Max wrong, maybe it’s time to fork the keys over, and why wait until All Out? Everyone watching knows they deserve better.
Jon Moxley’s music plays and MJF loses his mind ordering his entourage to cover the vomitoria to keep him away form the ring.
Mox is smarter than that, and comes down the entrance tunnel and gets in the ring... NORTHERN LARIAT! Raining punches down, smashing him into the podium... PARADIGM SHIFT! Moxley shoves the podium over and leaves, message sent.
At Gorilla, Jon gets on the mic and says this doesn’t leave them even, far from it. That won’t be until he teaches him a painful lesson in humility at All Out.
Wardlow checks on Max, who’s clutching his neck and crying.
Matt Hardy is interviewed backstage.
He won’t be medically cleared for ten days, but he’s alive, and he’s been seeing red since last Wednesday. He wants to make Sammy Guevara bleed, and on next week’s delayed episode of Dynamite, he’s gonna be there to kick Sammy’s ass, and he’s gonna stick around tonight and beat his ass if he can. Matt sees some dude walking and starts smashing him into a garage door, thinking he’s Sammy, but it’s actually referee Mike Posey!
Scorpio Sky makes his entrance to send us to break.
Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Scorpio Sky (AEW TNT Championship)
Collar and elbow, Sky with a side headlock, Rhodes shoots him off, shoulder block, drop down, leapfrog, leapfrog, drop down, Cody wipes out and falls out of the ring to regroup! Back inside, jockeying for position over a hip toss and Scorpio gets hip tossed over the ropes and to the floor.
Back inside, whip across, Rhodes ducking and dodging but he eats a kick and fires a Cactus Clothesline back! Striking on the floor, back inside, kick to the gut, drop down slap, Sky turns him around into the corner for cravate knee lifts. Up and over, snap scoop powerslam from the champion sends us to break.
Back from commercial, Rhodes has Sky locked in a bow-and-arrow. Scorpio fights out of it, kick to the midsection, whip across, Cody with the Yoshi Tonic, Sky takes him to the next corner and hangs him up in the Tree of Woe to go to town on him. Posting him gut-first into the steel, locking a Cobra Twist on to press the attack.
On the escape, back body drop puts Rhodes on the ramp... SLINGSHOT ACE CRUSHER BUT AT WHAT COST?! Back inside, cover for a nearfall, going for a suplex but his back gives out and Cody suplexes him up on top of the turnbuckles. Climbing to join him, jockeying for position... SUPERPLEX BUT SCORPIO GETS A SMALL PACKAGE FOR TWO!
Fireman’s carry, TKO blocked, Cross Rhodes... SKY KICKS OUT! Scorpio presses the attack, another nearfall, Cody blocks a slingshot Ace Crusher and hooks him a second time...
Cody Rhodes wins by pinfall with Cross Rhodes to retain the AEW TNT Championship.
Post-match, Mr. Brodie Lee gets on the tron holding the old unfinished TNT Championship.
He says the Elite has been dispatched, and on Saturday Cody is going to put respect on his name and the Dark Order’s name as he takes the title off his hands and give him the unfinished one back. Tick tock, Cody, time’s up.
Private Party tell us the Hardy Boyz are their favorite tag team of all time.
Jurassic Express make their entrance to send us to break.
“Hangman” Adam Page & Kenny Omega (c) vs. Jurassic Express (“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry & Luchasaurus) (AEW World Tag Team Championship)
Omega and Perry to start, collar and elbow, fighting into the ropes, Kenny goes to break dirty but Marko Stunt gets on the apron as referee Bryce Remsburg struggles to regain order. Another lockup, Omega with a side headlock, shot off, drop down, drop down trips him up on the second try, roll-up for one! Roll-through armbar, shift to a knucklelock, Arabian Press lucha arm drag!
Omega distracted by Stunt, he eats a dropkick and Jack covers him for two. Tag to Luchasaurus, laying kicks in, reverse STO for a nearfall! Double teams, the heat segment rolls on until Page tags in and takes control. Chopping away at Jungle Boy, tagging Omega in, just destroying Jack as we go to break.
Back from commercial, Luchasaurus is laying headbutts in and cleaning house. Off the ropes, big boot takes Omega out, scoop, Page makes the save but the dinosaur stays in control with crescent kicks! Chokeslam sets up a standing moonsault on Hangman... NOPE! Kenny sidesteps a boot, V-Trigger to the back, Dragon suplex, fired up, a second one connects!
Perry in, Omega goes for a Dragon on him but gets arm dragged to the floor! Dragon suplex takes Marko Stunt out and he counters a dive from Jungle Boy with a Dragon suplex for him, too! Fisherman buster for the dino, no dice! Tag to Hangman, stacking Jurassic Express up for charging strikes, rolling elbow right on the dinosaur’s jaw!
Back elbows to fight out of a waistlock, Jack goes for a Frankensteiner, Kenny counters... POWERBOMB INTO A GERMAN SUPLEX! Crescent kick from Luchasaurus, Hangman goes for Buckshot but he’s got the goozle as a counter! Goozle for Kenny, too, they go for a double suplex and get suplexed themselves! Dives from Jungle Boy, brillo tornado DDT, dino has Marko... MILITARY PRESS DROP TO THE FLOOR ONTO OMEGA!
Luchasaurus with the reverse Death Valley Driver... NO DICE! Rolling roundhouse, sliding elbow... KENNY MAKES THE SAVE! Dumping Luchasaurus to the floor... AND POWERBOMBING JUNGLE BOY OVER THE ROPES AND INTO HIM ON THE FLOOR! KENNY OMEGA TOPE CON GIRO! Throwing Jungle Boy back inside, where Page hits a Tenryu Powerbomb... SO CLOSE!
The champs line him up...
“Hangman” Adam Page & Kenny Omega win by pinfall with the Last Call to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
Proud-N-Powerful get a promo spot in a bathroom somewhere.
They say they got a sweet deal on Trent’s mom’s car’s tires and then they dump out their gear from the car. They dump bleach all over it and say they will not apologize.
This sends us to break.
Back from commercial, Butcher and the Blade pick the Road Warriors as their favorite team ever.
FTR, the Young Bucks, the Rock & Roll Express, and the Brainbusters are in the ring for Tag Team Appreciation Night. The Bucks talk up the Rock & Rolls as the original Young Bucks who went on to inspire the Rockers and the Hardyz before them.
They give the mic to the Rock & Rolls and FTR get on their mic next. They admit to being marks for Arn and Tully, and say it’s because of them that they get to make a living in the sport of pro wrestling. Cash talks about how he loves his wife and daughter and thanks the vets in the ring for letting him give them the life he never had.
Ricky Morton gets on the mic and talks about how he watches AEW every week and he hasn’t seen so much chemisty as FTR have since Tully and Arn, but then you come to the Young Bucks. For the last 15 years they’ve dominated tag team wrestling just the way he and Robert did.
Arn Anderson gets on the mic and says he knows Tully is just getting caught up so he’s gonna help him. He doesn’t blow smoke because it leaves a bad taste in his mouth, but he will say the Bucks have taken tag team wrestling to a new level. He turns to address Ricky and Robert and says they’re still kicking ass and they gotta be the tag team of the century, and he’ll say it, FTR are the best team in the world.
Tully Blanchard takes the mic and tells Ricky he doesn’t want to start anything he can’t finish, and he’s got news for all of ‘em— the thing that makes you a great tag team is having the belt around your waist, and as of tonight, neither the Bucks nor FTR are the tag champs. He turns to Arn and says they’ve had a thing since Labor Day last year, and he doesn’t understand the Nightmare Family logo on Anderson’s vest.
Shawn Spears comes down to ringside as Arn says he can see what’s happening here, and Ricky pops Tully in the mouth before he can keep talking! We get a short, sharp brawl and Dax Harwood’s bad knee goes out on him! Cash Wheeler checks on him while the Bucks back Shawn and Tully off... IT WAS A RUSE! WHEELER CLOBBERS ROBERT WITH THE BRACE AND FTR HIT THE SPIKE PILEDRIVER ON RICKY!
FTR bail out of the ring and hug as the tag champs come down to check on Ricky Morton.
Referee Mike Chioda is interviewed backstage and Chris Jericho rolls up.
He says they’ve been around the world together and he wants Chioda to referee his match tonight, and to do the right thing. Mike says he’ll call it right down the middle, and Jericho says yes, when the time is right and he gives him a signal, he should call it right down the middle and he might have a job then.
And so we go to break.
Heather Monroe vs. Hikaru Shida
Monroe in hot out the gates, kicking her into the corner and hammering her with forearms in the corner. Choking her over the ropes, breaking at referee Paul Turner’s behest, whip across, Shida ducks a lariat and hits a jumping knee strike to set up grounded punches! Scoop lift into a backbreaker, smashing Heather into the turnbuckles!
Sidestep the charge, Hikaru to the second, Monroe with kicks and a double stomp, cover for two! Shida with a suplex into the turnbuckles, a series of hard elbows, Falcon Arrow... HEATHER ROLLS THROUGH INTO A COVER FOR TWO! Stretch Muffler applied... it’s over!
Hikaru Shida wins by submission with a Stretch Muffler.
Tony Schiavone interviews Shida.
She says she’s still waiting and to bring it on!
We go in a locker room somewhere, where Lance Archer is beating dudes up while Jake “the Snake” Roberts cuts a promo talking about owning people and instilling fear.
Archer comes over and asks if he told them yet, and Jake says he didn’t. Lance tears the Snake’s shirt off his back and shows the camera “EVERYBODY DIES” written across his back!
Commentary recaps the AEW Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament and hypes up next week’s YouTube offerings, including a replay of part of last year’s All Out next Wednesday while Dynamite is pre-empted.
They hype next week’s special Saturday card and toss to a video package on our main event.
Orange Cassidy makes his entrance as we’re informed Best Friends and the Inner Circle have been banned from ringside to send us to break.
Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy ($7,000 Obligation Match)
Jericho all smiles, palling around with referee Mike Chioda. Cassidy goes to put his hands in his pockets, Chris rushes him, he ducks and we get Frye/Takayama punches! Into the corner, leaping lariat sets up body blows, hard right, off the ropes, flying shoulder block! Orange clotheslines him to the floor and follows it up with a plancha!
Whip reversed, Y2J eats the barricade, another whip puts him in on the other side, Cassidy perches up top, hands in his pockets... TRUST FALL DIVE OFF THE TOP! Back inside, diving DDT... NOT ENOUGH! Charging in, but Jericho gets a boot up and wipes him out! Back suplex, pressing the attack, drawing Orange up and hammering him with chops in the ropes.
To the apron, forearm sets up the triangle dropkick and Cassidy crumples to the floor! Y2J listens to the crowd and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Jericho completes a delayed vertical suplex and gets a nearfall out of it! Lionsault for another tight two, a staggered Cassidy reaching out and pawing at Le Champion, he ducks a lariat and lays him out with a kick! Off the ropes, a falling lariat takes him out, Orange goes up top, diving crossbody... STILL NO!
Catch a kick, dragon screws ensue to take Chris off his feet. Forearms, whip into the corner, Cassidy gets a boot up, diving into a Frankensteiner... REVERSED TO THE WALLS OF JERICHO! Orange crawling, screaming agony, reaching for the ropes, Y2J steps forward back into the middle of the ring but Cassidy refuses to give and reverses to a small package... NOPE!
Catch a kick, another dragon screw, ankle lock applied in the middle of the ring! Jericho gets out, goes for another suplex... STUNDOG MILLIONAIRE! Cassidy off the ropes, satellite blocked, Codebreaker connects, cover... YOU CANNOT KEEP ORANGE CASSIDY DOWN! Y2J gets Floyd off the apron, referee Mike Chioda warns him against it but Chris filibusters, asking him to “do the right thing” and turn around.
Mike refuses to and takes Floyd away! Y2J grabs his lapels, Orange with a schoolboy for two! Michinoku Driver, Jericho kicks out, off the ropes... PENALTY KICK! THE ARM SLEEVE IS OFF... SUPERMAN PUNCH! PROUD-N-POWERFUL COME TO THE STAGE BUT BEST FRIENDS MEET THEM! JAKE HAGER RUNS IN AND HITS THE HIGH-ANGLE SPINNING SPINEBUSTER WHILE CHIODA’S DISTRACTED! JERICHO COVERS HIM BUT ORANGE WON’T STAY DOWN!
Trading forearms on their knees, Cassidy to his feet, forearms on forearms, Jericho shoves Chioda but Orange catches him...
Orange Cassidy wins by pinfall with an arm-trap side cradle.
That’s the show, folks.
