AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR JULY 8
So this is continuous happiness. You know, I always imagined it something more. With the right drapes, the right paints, the right frames, this could really work. What a great day to spend indoors, liveblogging this here pro wrestling show for you folks.
The show opens with a hype reel for tonight’s show.
“Hangman” Adam Page & Kenny Omega (c) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) (AEW World Tag Team Championship)
Quen and Omega to start, light mat grappling in the feeling out, interspersed with light lucha libre, Marq makes the mistake of going for a standing moonsault and Kenny pounces on him! Stomps, isolating him in the corner, the champs knocking Kassidy off the apron and teeing off on Quen with chops! He blocks a Kotaro Krusher with a handstand and turns into a flurry of dropkicks for the comeback!
Tag made, double whip on Omega and he runs right into Silly String! Hangman powerbombs Marq over the barricade and into the crowd and Isiah nails him with a dropkick through the ropes! BRILLO KASSIDY! Back inside, senton atomico but Kenny gets the knees up! Dragon suplex, Quen comes in and hits him with an enzuigiri but Page lays him out with a boot as the match breaks down!
Champs stacking their challengers up in the corner, rolling elbow / assisted German suplex combo takes Marq down but Private Party get a double Spanish Fly off on Omega! Isiah and Kenny slugging it out in the middle of the ring, punch for punch, Kassidy lights him up but when he comes off the ropes he runs into a huge chop!
Isiah gets a spinning back-to-back backbreaker... NOPE! Omega going one-on-two but he eats a leg-feed enzuigiri and falls into Quen’s lap, Finlay Roll into a monkey flip, tag to Page! Adam powerbombs one Private Party man into the other... STILL NO! Drawing Marq up, laying chops into him, whip reversed, jockeying for position over a slam, big enzuigiri lays him out!
Kassidy with the Orihara moonsault to take Kenny out on the floor, Quen goes up top, nobody home on the 450 but he lands on his feet! Hangman wants Buckshot, Isiah gets in his way, springboard reverse STO into the ramp! Up top again, shooting star press... KENNY OMEGA MAKES THE SAVE AT THE LAST SECOND!
Gin & Juice blocked, V-Trigger clears the way for an avalanche powerbomb, Kassidy’s feeling it... LAST CALL! IT’S OVER!
“Hangman” Adam Page & Kenny Omega win by pinfall with Last Call on Isiah Kassidy to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship.
Commentary hypes up the rest of tonight’s card for us and we go to break.
Joey Janela vs. Lance Archer
Archer pressing the attack from the jump, action on the floor. Janela off the ropes, a dive wipes Lance out and he follows it up with a plancha off the top! Back inside, the rally fails as Archer destroys Joey with a pounce! Drooling against the ropes as Lance draws him up, choking him, off the ropes, northern forearm!
Clubbing blows, throwing Joey into the turnbuckles, just beating on the Bad Boy with a vengeance as we go to break.
Back from commercial, Archer’s still in firm control and beating the hell out of Janela. Sonny Kiss gets on the apron for a distraction and Joey throws right hands to back Lance off. Rolling elbow connects, off the ropes for a lariat, another one, kicks, shoulder block from the apron, back inside, Archer hoists him up but the Bad Boy counters Blackout into an elbow drop... NOPE!
Charging forearm strike, superkick drops Archer to his knees... KNEE TO THE FACE! Jake “the Snake” Roberts is up on the apron with the snake, Joey with a diving senton, Sonny with a 450 splash, referee Paul Turner finally turns away from Snake the Jake and counts the pin... NO GOOD! Bad Boy goes up top, Archer hammers him with a right hand!
Setting him up... ICONOCLASM OFF THE APRON AND THROUGH A TABLE! Back inside...
Lance Archer wins by pinfall with a lateral press.
We get another black and white Darby Allin promo, wherein he calls Brian Cage out and shows us his Coffin Drop training for his comeback, which is falling off a crane and into a pit of foam blocks.
Brian Cage and Taz come out for an interview with Tony Schiavone.
Taz cuts a promo about how Cage is gonna beat Jon Moxley next week and he calls attention to a black sack in his hands. He says he created it years ago, it’s basically his full body of work, his blood, sweat, and tears... it’s the FTW World Heavyweight Championship! No promotion has ever recognized it, but wrestling fans respect the man that holds it, because he’s the baddest son of a bitch in pro wrestling.
And that man is now The Machine, Brian Cage! He presents the title to Cage and tells Mox that his ass is done.
And so we go to break.
Butcher and the Blade (Andy Williams & Pepper Parks) & Lucha Brothers (Pentagon, Jr. & Rey Fenix) vs. FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) & Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)
Pentagon and Nick to start, Penta taunting, throwing his glove at FTR, Harwood tags in and we get to rasslin’! Hammerlock, reversal, Pentagon slaps the taste out of his mouth! Dax throwing forearms, trading chops, whip into an elbow, arm wringer, tag to Wheeler. Isolating Penta, carving him up with strikes, but when Dax tags back in, the luchador turns the tide with targeted strikes in the corner.
Lucha Brothers working him over, diving double stomps, but Harwood whips Fenix off the ropes and destroys him with a lariat! Tag to Wheeler, flapjack into a powerslam, only a nearfall! Matt tags himself in blind, Cash obliges with a double-team but Rey gets away and tags out to Parks! Arm drag into an armbar, the Bucks cut him off and double-team him, targeting his back!
The match starts to break down but the Bucks maintain control with dropkicks! Pepper sidesteps a charge, press slam backbreaker from Williams sets up a gutbuster and a Doctor Bomb from Parks and Wheeler makes the save! Pentagon in, he’s got Nick up, he gets destroyed with a double-team but confusion over who’s legal keeps it from ending the match!
Tag to Fenix, Nick going hold for hold with him on the ropes, into an avalanche Frankensteiner! Tag and an electric chair from Wheeler, superkick-assisted Dragon suplex, and the match breaks down again as we go to break!
Back from commercial, Parks is in control on Wheeler, working a grounded reverse chinlock and wearing him down. Cash to his feet, off the ropes into a knee lift, Pepper clears the apron but a back body drop clears the way! Tag to Matt, diving crossbody on the Lucha Bros, double lariat takes them out! Dropkick for Butcher and the Blade, skin the cat back inside, standing shiranui for Penta and a slam for Fenix!
Jackson heads up top and a diving crossbody takes Butcher and the Blade down a second time! Back inside, diving elbow on Rey... NOPE! Passing Fenix into the ropes, he pops right out into a crescent kick and tags Parks in! Matt tags out to Harwood, jockeying for position, Dax snaps a DDT off and offers Jackson a handshake.
Butcher comes in... CROSS-TEAM SUPERKICK PARTY! Fenix back... GOODNIGHT EXPRESS FROM WHEELER AND NICK! FTR set him up for the piledriver but Williams takes Cash out with a DDT on the apron! Nick up top... SPIKE PILEDRIVER! PENTA PULLS HARWOOD OFF THE PIN! Dax throws him into the ringpost and over the barricade into the crowd!
Suplex lift sets Pepper up top, tag to Matt, tag to Cash, tag to Nick, all four men in the grace period, double superplex, diving splash, senton atomico... FENIX DIVES TO BREAK IT UP! Penta and Matt squaring up, chop for punch, kick for forearm, block, Cero Miedo, cut off, thinking Meltzer Driver, Fenix comes in... SPRINGBOARD FLIP PILEDRIVER OVER THE ROPES AND INTO THE REST OF THE MEN ON THE FLOOR!
Malfunction at the junction, Matt superkicks Dax, the Lucha Brothers set it up...
Butcher and the Blade & Lucha Brothers win by pinfall with a spike package piledriver from Lucha Brothers on Matt Jackson.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, “Big Swole” Aerial Monroe is arriving at the building.
She’s informed that she’s not allowed in the building, and she’s served with a notice, saying she knows Dr. Britt Baker, DMD did this. She walks off, complaining about taking three hours to drive here.
Kenzie Paige & KiLynn King vs. Nyla Rose (Handicap Match)
King tags out immediately, Paige charges in, and Rose drops her with a lariat! Headbutt, scoop and a slam, leg drop, smashing her into the turnbuckles and working her over with shoulder thrusts. She biels Kenzie across the ring and KiLynn comes in. Go-behind, clubbing blows into a sleeper hold but Nyla backs her into the corner and German suplexes Paige when she runs in!
Spear to King, catch the crossbody from Kenzie, swing her into her partner and then a fallaway slam throws her into her as well! Powerbomb lift, Beast Bomb Paige into KiLynn...
Nyla Rose wins by pinfall with a Beast Bomb.
Post-match, Rose gets on the mic.
She says everyone’s been wondering what she has to say, but she believes actions speak louder than words, and her actions tonight spoke for themselves. She looks in the back and she sees all these great wrestlers with managers, so she’s taken it on herself to hire a manager. She’s not ready to tell us who, but she’s gonna promise us one thing.
All the wrestlers with managers? Cody Rhodes? Champion. Brian Cage? Champion. Her manager will ensure she wins the title back from Hikaru Shida.
We see Colt Cabana getting checked on backstage for a massive bruise. Mr. Brodie Lee gives him a pep talk and says he expects to see him out there for their match tonight.
Dark Order and Colt Cabana make their entrance to send us to break.
Colt Cabana & Dark Order (Mr. Brodie Lee & Stu Grayson) vs. SCU (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, & Scorpio Sky)
Daniels and Lee to start, but Grayson immediately comes in. Side headlock, shot off, shoulder block, drop down, Christopher with an arm drag into an armbar. Shot off, waistlock from the Fallen Angel and Stu shifts gears to run him over! Chop connects, jockeying for position, drop down, leapfrog, dropkick, only two!
Grayson with an uppercut, whip reversed, Daniels connects with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and they isolate the Dark Order man with quick tags. Cabana gets the tag, mat grapping with Sky, but his giant abdominal bruise leaves him vulnerable and unable to press the attack. Whip across, ducking lariats, Scorpio with a front kick and Colt goes staggering into the corner.
Whip reversed, Grayson with a cheap shot and the match breaks down as Cabana doubles over in agony in the corner. Dark Order clear the ring and isolate Sky as we go to break.
Back from commercial, Cabana is in control on Sky, stacking him up in the corner for the Flying Asshole as the Dark Order guys tag in and build to a nearfall. Back body drop puts Grayson to the floor, a kick to the bruise sets up a neckbreaker on Colt! Tag to Lee, Kazarian legal as well, lighting Brodie up with punches and a dropkick!
Springboard into a tornado DDT, Frankie running hot but Lee kicks out at one! Guillotine leg drop to Grayson opens him up to Brodie’s ministrations, catch a second attempt at the DDT but Daniels comes in with a dropkick off the top! Whip across, big boot lays Chris out, superkick for Kaz, tag to Stu! Back elbow on Scorpio, Stu comes in and drops him!
To the apron, springboard, Kazarian with the Ace Crusher but Lee hits the Truck Stop on him! Brodie to the floor, Daniels dives on him! Slingshot schoolboy, duck the pump kick, thrust spinebuster sets Grayson up for the Best Moonsault Ever... COLT MAKES THE SAVE! In pain, jawing at the Fallen Angel, who decks him with a right!
Lee in with the discus lariat, he orders Stu to tag Colt in, Cabana makes the cover...
Colt Cabana & Dark Order win by pinfall with a lateral press from Cabana on Christopher Daniels.
Post-match, Colt wants to celebrate but Dark Order aren’t really interested.
Commentary hypes up Fight for the Fallen next week, a charity show for COVID-19.
Big Swole, in hat, hood, and mask, rolls up and jaws at Dr. Britt Baker, DMD, and her entourage, slapping Britt and clipping her nose!
And so we go to break.
Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy
Cassidy steps up to Jericho in his usual laconic fashion and puts his hands in his pockets before shooting a headbutt! Off the ropes, dropkick into a kip-up and Chris bails to the floor! Off the ropes, suicide dive takes Y2J out and he hammers him with right hands! Whip into the barricade, back inside, Orange off the top with a crossbody!
Off the ropes, satellite DDT countered and Le Champion gets the Walls of Jericho! Cassidy crawling, reaching, and he gets the ropes to force the break but Ortiz nails him with the madball! Lateral press for one, Y2J with a back suplex, disdainful strikes, drawing him up and hitting a backbreaker for good measure.
Chopping away at Orange in the corner, hard whip across puts him into the turnbuckles, and Jericho follows that up with another one. Listening to the boos of the crowd, drawing Cassidy up, whip across, Flair Flip, slingshot back in, folding schoolboy for two! Backslide fakeout into an inside cradle, again just two! Arm drag into a bridging Oklahoma Roll, no dice!
Whip into the corner, duck under and Chris takes the turnbuckles hard! Superman Punch gets dodged and Orange falls to the floor! Y2J dropkicks him through the ropes and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Jericho is in control and jawing at the camera. He draws Cassidy up and gets some body blows for his trouble. Orange off the ropes but Chris catches him in a Cobra Twist! He uses the ropes for leverage and referee Aubrey Edwards kicks his hand off the ropes! Cassidy throws Y2J off him and goes forearm for forearm in the middle of the ring!
Fired up, off the ropes, Chris with a low bridge and a shoulder block that sends Orange into the barricade! Back inside, Jericho with the one-foot pin and then raining right hands down. Cassidy throwing forearms to the jaw, backing Y2J into the corner and staggering him! Whip reversed, boot up on teh charge, off the second with a headscissors takeover!
Orange puts his hands in his pockets and throws the shin kicks! SUPERKICK! SO CLOSE YOU CAN TASTE IT! Up top, jockeying for position, Cassidy drops Jericho to the mat... DIVING SPLASH FOR A TIGHT NEARFALL! Charging in, Chris with a back body drop to the apron but Orange low bridges the dive, corkscrew senton atomico wipes the Inner Circle men out!
Drawing Jericho up, putting him back inside, Cassidy goes up top and perches... DIVING DDT! JERICHO FINDS THE WHEREWITHAL TO KICK OUT! Orange takes off his elbow pad and charges in but gets caught in the Walls of Jericho again! Posting up, trying to crawl, desperation etched on his face, Cassidy reaches but Y2J pulls him back in!
Orange rolls under, folding press... NOPE! A forearm lays Chris out, but Cassidy is slow to capitalize and Santana throws orange juice in his face! Best Friends attack Proud-N-Powerful on the floor and even the odds! JERICHO HITS ORANGE WITH FLOYD! CODEBREAKER LANDS FLUSH BUT ORANGE CASSIDY WILL NOT STAY DOWN!
Clubbing blows from Le Champion, Cassidy gives ‘em right back, off the ropes... JUDAS EFFECT! LIONSAULT TO FOLLOW IT UP BUT NOBODY’S HOME! ORANGE STRAIGHTENS UP FOR THE MICHINOKU DRIVER BUT CHRIS JERICHO KICKS OUT! TRADING FOREARMS ON THEIR KNEES, BOTH MEN SPENT AS TV TIME TICKS DOWN! CASSIDY OFF THE ROPES, NECKBREAKER DROP! OFF THE ROPES AGAIN, CHRIS CATCHES HIM... STUNDOG MILLIONAIRE!
CASSIDY OFF THE ROPES, SATELLITE DDT... Y2J KICKS OUT! Neither man can get an advantage and we’re in overrun, baby! Duck a lariat, thinking Superman Punch... JUDAS EFFECT! IT’S OVER!
