AEW Fallout: Arn Anderson hints at Cody’s next challenger, MJF still undefeated, more!

Night 1 of Fyter Fest (July 1, 2020) is in the books. The big stories coming out of the show were successful title defenses from Hikaru Shida, Cody Rhodes, and Hangman Page & Kenny Omega. The fallout includes Arn Anderson’s analysis of Cody’s win, MJF still undefeated despite his tag team loss, and other goodies.

Arn Anderson was back with Coach’s Corner to discuss Cody’s TNT Championship match against Jake Hager.

Arn brought up a very good point about Cody winning his last five matches in five different ways. That is certainly tough to prepare for as his opponent. Sonny Kiss was teased as the next challenger. That’s a contest I’d like to see. Kiss has never been given a spotlight to strut his stuff. His role in AEW has been relegated to tag bouts or short singles matches. I’m curious to see what’s in Kiss’ arsenal for a fifteen minute banger.

Unfortunately, no questions were asked about Dustin Rhodes’ blatant interference. It seemed to me like an orchestrated plan from Arn, but we may never know.

MJF & Wardlow lost to Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus, however, that hasn’t put a blemish on MJF’s record. He is still undefeated.

MJF’s logic is sound. Besides, who are to question him? MJF is better than us, and we know it. For evidence, just look at how he promised a ratings W during his pre-mach promo. MJF came through for AEW once again.

Check out this surprise in attendance.

The man with the mullet is Brian Pillman Jr. I thought he was signed with MLW, but perhaps he is now a free agent. Pillman’s presence could mean something or it could mean nothing. He does seem like a perfect candidate as a contender for Cody’s TNT Championship open challenge.

One of the more memorable moments from night 1 of Fyter Fest was the Best Friends being driven to the ring by Trent’s mom. Hangman Page felt bad for Sue? afterward about beating Trent’s ass.

Penelope Ford lost her title shot, but she did gain the respect of Hikaru Shida.

The last bit of chatter is from Tony Schiavone on the post-show. He was asked about plans for trios titles. Schiavone felt women’s tag belts would be the more likely next step if AEW brings in more gold. I caution not to take that to mean a women’s tag division is on the horizon. Schiavone isn’t involved in those decisions. He’s just answering with his opinion. I share it, because it is interesting to think about. Personally, I’d rather see mixed tag belts. It would be something unique to set AEW apart from the pack.

Who do you want to see as Cody Rhodes’ next TNT Championship defense? Would you be excited to see Brian Pillman Jr. become All Elite? What championship would you like to see AEW bring in next?
