Dynamite’s opening match was a mess

Tonight’s (July 29) episode of Dynamite kicked off with a five-on-five match pitting Chris Jericho & the Inner Circle against the Best Friends, Orange Cassidy, and Jurassic Express.

The match quickly spun out of control, with all 10 competitors (and Marko Stunt) getting it on at the same time even though this was not a Tornado match. The commentators spent a lot of time guessing why the rules were not being enforced by the referee. That’s never a good sign.

Things got back on track with Trent getting beat down by the heel team for an extended period of time, unable to make it to his corner for a tag. Luchasaurus eventually got the hot tag, but he was so fired up that his mask basically fell off in the middle of a melee exchange. It was a fitting development considering the match was quite a mess.

Matt Hardy eventually showed up and interfered with Sammy Guevara, allowing Luchasaurus to take advantage for the pin. Hardy made it clear after the match that he has Guevara in his sights going forward. The story between Jericho and Orange Cassidy didn’t really see any new developments here.

Coming into tonight’s episode, I thought this match could have main evented Dynamite. Thankfully that did not happen, because this one was a big letdown.
