AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR JULY 22

She is not the only song I sing, though I sing them all for her. There is something in her melody that I’ve never heard before. The winter and the summer need never come again, but I’ve got to liveblog this here pro wrestling show.

The show opens into the intro video.

Cody Rhodes is in the ring for his open challenge... EDDIE KINGSTON IS HERE!

He cuts a promo comparing his childhood to Cody’s and telling Arn Anderson he’ll knock his jaw off his face. He had to grind to survive and Rhodes couldn’t last a day in his shoes. You wanna talk about the sport of pro wrestling? That’s a joke, and everyone he’s face so far has been a child, but Eddie is a grown man who’ll put him in the ground and smile.

And here’s the best thing— Tony Khan paid him to show up, and now he’s gonna pay him to kick ass and take that title. He swears on his beautiful mother’s life if Arn keeps talking he’s gonna gouge his eyes out, and says that Tony told him the match could be no DQ, just Cody has to accept, and is he an egg-sucking dog or an egg-sucking bitch.

Cody accepts! We’re off!

Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Eddie Kingston (AEW TNT Championship Open Challenge No Disqualification Match)

Taking the action to the floor, Kingston hammers Rhodes with strikes, Cody starts to stabilize but they end up in the ring with Eddie punching away! Chops in the corner, Rhodes ducks the Backfist to the Future and gets the Beautiful Disaster! Kingston to the floor, Cody dives on him and punches him against the barricade!

Back inside, perching, missile dropkick from the champ! Back to the floor, Eddie beats Rhodes with his own weight belt! Peeling the mat back to expose the bare concrete, thinking about a piledriver but Cody hits a back body drop that puts Kingston into the concrete! Drawing him up, right hands, punching away at Eddie’s forehead but he gouges the eye in return!

Back in the ring, Kingston’s knee bothering him but he hits a wicked lariat and follows it up with the Saito Suplex! Backing Rhodes into the corner, lighting him up with strikes, trading paintbrush chops and again Eddie’s knee keeps him from capitalizing like he should. Disdainful kicks to get some room, brain chop, into a rear chinlock to grind the champion down.

Rhodes gasping in the ropes, trying to regain his bearings as the War King comes over to clobber him with crossface blows! Leg kick, seems like Cody might get his second wind but Eddie turns him inside out with a lariat! Stretch Plum applied in the middle of the ring! Slaps from Rhodes to break the hold, both men to their feet, Cody throwing hands but Kingston snapmares him for a kick to the back.

Back to the Stretch Plum, eye poke, another Saito but Rhodes floats over and chop blocks the bad leg! Cody smashing his face into the turnbuckles, whip across but his leg gives out... AND HE UPPERCUTS RHODES IN THE GENTLEMAN’S AREA WHEN HE GOES TO FOLLOW UP! Drawing him up, Kingston snaps off a DDT, eyes locked with Double A!

Rolling outside, looking under the ring for plunder, Eddie comes up with a sack and takes it in the ring. HE DUMPS IT AND THE RING IS FULL OF TACKS! Grabbing Cody’s ear, begging him to fight back, chops, scoop lift but Rhodes floats out and dropkicks the bad knee! Hook the arms, going for the Cop Killer but Eddie floats out!

Chop connects... HE POWERBOMBS CODY INTO THE THUMBTACKS! THE GRANDSON OF A PLUMBER SCREAMS IN AGONY! SAITO SUPLEX BUT RHODES FIRES UP AND HITS A LARIAT! Determination on the American Nightmare’s face, stalking after Kingston, spinning toehold but Eddie fights back with slaps! Slaps from Rhodes! Leg pick, figure four leglock on in the middle of the ring, right next to the tacks!

Eddie struggles...

Cody Rhodes wins by submission with the figure four leglock to retain the AEW TNT Championship.

Rhodes celebrates and we go to break.

Back from commercial, commentary runs down the card for tonight’s show.

Jon Moxley cuts a promo.

He says he keeps it real, and if he tells you he’s gonna do something, he does it. Like when he told Taz he was gonna rip Brian Cage’s arm in two, he was this close to six months of rehab, surgery, arm in a sling, good painkillers, the whole nine... and next time, he’s not gonna let go.

Maxwell Jacob Friedman makes his entrance and gets on the mic.

He says his opponent is a little nervous and that’s natural, he’s a prodigy with a heart of gold, and he wants to give him an opportunity. He asks him to say a little about Jungle Man, but he counters back that that isn’t his name, he’s Griff Garrison. MJF mocks the guy at length, and when Griff points out he lost at Fyter Fest, Friedman clocks him with the mic!

Griff Garrison vs. Maxwell Jacob Friedman

Squash match city, babes. Although we do get a mid-match commercial break, so that’s weird.

Back from break, MJF tortures the guy and then gets on the mic, clarifying that he did not, in fact, lose. He’s never been pinned or submitted, so he’s undefeated, and he asks Griff to confirm this for everyone but he just swats the mic away. He stomps on the poor guy’s hand, becoming increasingly unhinged as he finally gets what he wants.

Garrison pokes his eyes and nearly steals with a schoolboy, Max unloads on him...

Maxwell Jacob Friedman wins by pinfall with the Heatseeker.

Tony Schiavone is backstage with Rebel for a health update on Dr. Britt Baker, DMD.

She goes to clarify her name first but Britt calls her in for something or other. The interview goes into Britt’s dressing room, and she tells us that the conspiracy is continuing. We all remember when Hikaru Shida busted her nose and she returned the next week, and how was she paid? Her fragile, fractured nose was targeted and taken advantage of.

This leads to the reveal of Rule #4, “never count out a role model”, and she says she’s set for the biggest comeback of all time.

Brian Cage and Taz come to the ring and Taz gets on the mic.

He says it’s been a difficult week and there’s been a lot of heated discussions. To be frank, Cage was pretty close to firing him but cooler heads prevailed when he explained why he threw the towel in. It was a business decision, because he’ll be damned if he’s gonna stand there and let this Machine have his bicep torn a second time.

He swears that Brian Cage will never be in that position again, he’ll never tap, he’s not wired to tap, and that’s why he’s the FTW World Heavyweight Champion. No surrender, no quit—

Enter Darby Allin, skateboard in hand.

RICKY STARKS ATTACKS HIM FROM BEHIND AND BEATS HIM DOWN! CAGE POWERBOMBS DARBY ON THE RAMP AND THEN POWERBOMBS HIM OVER THE ROPES AND INTO THE RING! STARKS HITS A TIGER LIFT DDT! JON MOXLEY MAKES THE SAVE WITH A BARBED WIRE BAT IN HAND!

We get a video package announcing a 16-woman tag team tournament and go to break.

Back from commercial, the Inner Circle are interviewed backstage.

Chris Jericho complains about his seven thousand dollar jacket that got dyed orange and ruined, so he’s going to ruin Orange Cassidy’s career. And on top of that, they’re going to embarrass the Jurassic Express tonight.

We go backstage with the Young Bucks as they walk for their Falls Count Anywhere against Butcher and the Blade and find them in the kitch.

Butcher and the Blade (Andy Williams & Pepper Parks) vs. Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) (Falls Count Anywhere Match)

Brawling away in the kitchen, slamming a Buck into a metal table for a nearfall! heels hold onto the advantage, double suplex puts Matt into a steel table for a second nearfall! Dragging him out into the concourse, Williams smashes Jackson’s face into a support beam and Parks does the same for Nick!

Riding a cart, but the Bucks sidestep and Pepper eats the beam! Double teaming the Butcher... VAN DAMINATOR WITH A COOKIE SHEET! Parks and Matt trading shots, Andy and Nick brawling towards a production trailer, the heels slam Matt into the back of the trailer! They’ve got Nick isolated... LAWN DART PUTS HIM FACE-FIRST INTO THE BIG BACK DOOR OF THE TRAILER! MATT JACKSON TOPE CON GIRO OUT OF THE TRAILER! THE BUCKS SMASH BLADE FACE-FIRST INTO ONE OF THE LEXAN SNOTGUARDS ON THE CONCOURSE!

Double-teaming Williams, dragging him over to the concessions, swatting him with a cookie sheet and setting him on the table for a sheet-assisted senton! Blade running away, trapped at the base of an escalator... AND HE GETS SUPERKICKED ONTO THE ESCALATOR AND HE TAKES A RIDE TO SEND US TO BREAK!

Back from commercial, the action comes to ringside and the Bucks hit an assisted shiranui on Williams, following it up with a running knee! Setting him up on the floor, but Andy fights his way free and dodges a plancha from Nick! Parks shows up, chair in hand, wailing away on the Young Bucks! Double whip, Nick goes over the barricade and into a handrail!

Looking to powerbomb Matt into a table but he fights out, Diamond Dust off the apron on Pepper! Nick dives into Andy! Nick follows it up by getting a table out and they lean it agians the barricade. Williams suplexes both men when they try to suplex him! Beating on them, throwing Nick into the barricade... PEPPER PARKS TOPE CON GIRO BUT MATT DODGES AND HE WIPES OUT HARD! BUTCHER CANNONBALLS A BUCK THROUGH A TABLE!

Looking for the win, Matt slips out, traps Andy in the corner for knees from Nick, bulldog / dropkick combo, only two! Matt puts the Sharpshooter on in the middle of the ring and Nick adds an arm-trap crossface! Parks breaks it up, the Bucks are down and out and he and Butcher alight on Matt Jackson on the ramp.

Suplex lift... POWERBOMB / NECKBREAKER ON THE RAMP! Bucks slowly back into it as brawling continues on the stage, Nick sets a table up, meeting of the minds for the heels... SUPERKICK PARTY! They set each of their opponents up on a table and climb the scaffolding on either side of the entrance... ELBOW DROP / SENTON ATOMICO COMBINATION OFF THE SCAFFOLD! IT’S OVER!

The Young Bucks win by pinfall with stereo dives on the stage.

Lance Archer and Jake “the Snake” Roberts are interviewed backstage.

Archer drags the interview guy into the locker room and hebeats up all the local talent that are in there! Snake the Jake cuts a promo all the while about how sooner or later someone is going to have to stand up to them.

And so we go to break.

Diamante vs. Ivelisse

Ivelisse with hard right hands in the corner right out the gates! Diamante fires right back, forearms and a slap rush, hip toss, springboard arm drag from Ivelisse! Trading shots, go-behind, standing switch, we get a picture-in-picture promo from Big Swole telling Britt Baker that actions have consequences.

Charging in, Diamante with boots up, dropkick puts Ivelisse in the corner but she bails to the safety of the floor. Ducking, trying to avoid her, action to the floor and they trade chops! Diamante breaking the count, back inside, to the apron, Ivelisse with a wicked roundhouse kick. Back in the ring proper, cover for two, kicks to the spine into a sleeper hold!

Forearms, Ivelisse talking trash and Diamante wallops her with overhand chops! Chop for chop, kick for kick, Diamante pulls ahead with lariats and a German suplex! Inverted facelock applied, Ivelisse blocks, Blue Thunder Driver... NOPE! Off the ropes, Diamante right there with her...

Diamante wins by pinfall with a small package.

And so we go to break.

“Hangman” Adam Page vs. Alan “Five” Angels

Circling, Five with a roundhouse kick but Page ducks it! Block another kick, drop him with an elbow, chops, Hangman running hot! Back suplex, Angels lands on his feet, drop down, leapfrog, drop down, kip-up, Adam with a boot! Snap suplex, cover for two, whip reversed, whip across, charging in, back body drop to the apron, Five ducking and dodging and he hits a kick from the apron!

Page big boots him to the floor, following out after him to throw him into the barricade and then Hot Shot him across it! Back inside, the Dark Order come to the stage to stare Page down and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Angels raining punches down, Shadows Over Hell, moonsault... KNEES UP! Page hammering him with chops, whip across, up and over, off the ropes, duck the lariat, right hands, solebutt, front kick, enzuigiri, Alan kips up! Off the ropes, Hangman right with him, lariat turns him inside out!

Charging in, boot up but Adam hits the corner lariat, off the ropes, effortless fallaway slam into the kip-up! Rolling elbow follows... NOPE! Stalking after his prey, Page throws him into the ropes...

“Hangman” Adam Page wins by pinfall with a pop-up Tenryu Powerbomb.

Post-match, Page motions like he wants the Dark Order to come down and fight him, but instead Mr. Brodie Lee and Colt Cabana join their fellows. Lee gets in the ring and says he’s been nothing but impressed with Hangman, but what he’s not impressed by is his lack of friends and his lack of a tag partner when he’s clearly in immediate danger.

He’s not here to hit him, he just wants to offer him the protection of the Dark Order. Page gets on the mic and says he appreciates the comments and the offer of friendship, but he’s not sure he’s ready to join a cult right now. Brodie says he just made his bed and he hopes he enjoys his sleep in it.

Lee goes back to the stage and takes Colt to the back with him, leaving the other members of the Dark Order to hit the ring and surround Hangman. He throws the first punch and we got a brawl! That Damned Numbers Game prevails, of course, but here come FTR for the save! Kenny Omega joins the fray as well!

Commentary announces a tag title match for the Dark Order next week as well as Diamante challenging Hikaru Shida for the women’s title, and a tornado tag between Taz’s boys on one hand and Mox and Allin on the other.

We get a hype reel for AEW’s action figure line and go to break.

Inner Circle (Chris Jericho & Jake Hager) vs. Jurassic Express (“Jungle Boy” Jack Perry & Luchasaurus)

Jericho and Perry to start, Chris just clobbering him into the corner and beating him down! Putting boots to him, breaking at referee Aubrey Edwards’ five count before going back over for heavy-handed chops! Whip across, up and over, arm drags from Jungle Boy set up a dropkick! Stalemate, Y2J runs away and tags Hager in.

Tag to Luchasaurus as well and the big boys go a-clubberin’! Fighting into the corner, punching away, Jake with a whip and Luchasaurus ducks and clobbers him with a right hand! Knee strke gets a big boot, off the ropes, trading shoulder blocks, superkick from the dinosaur man! Chokeslam reversed into a victory roll into a leg pick, Luchasaurus kicks him off!

Jake with the ankle lock after catching a boot, he gets backed into the corner and breaks in favor of tagging Jericho in. Working the big man’s leg over, quick tags, the Inner Circle keeping him isolated at length. Double lariats leave both big men down and out, tags made! Jungle Boy in hot, satellite headscissors, clear the apron, Hurricanrana... SO CLOSE!

Clubbing away, leg kicks on Le Champion, whip reversed, duck a lariat, suicide dive takes Proud-N-Powerful out! Springboard tornado DDT on Y2J but Hager breaks it up! Marko Stunt with a diving headscissors that sets up an Oklahoma roll... NOPE! Off the ropes, Chris with a pop-up drop, jawing at Stunt as we go to break.

Back from commercial, Jericho gets a two count off a back suplex on Perry. Corner lariat, setting Jack up top, chopping away. Climb up after, jockeying for position, Jungle Boy knocks him down and perches, diving crossbody... NOPE! Y2J with a wicked lariat and a tag to Hager. Elbow drop into a double chickenwing into a standing armbar into a kneeling armbar.

Jake decks Luchasaurus, dragging Perry into the corner, tag to Jericho and he’s wielding Floyd to referee Aubrey Edwards’ objections. She tries to take it away, Y2J refuses and gets into a shoving match with her before finally dropping the bat! Back suplex, scoop lift but Jack turns it into a small package for two!

Following it up with a lariat, the path is clear, but Jericho tags Hager in first! Knee lifts in the ropes, reverse chinlock applied, clubbing him down after he fights out, tag to Chris. Double whip, Jack with a double DDT! Everybody down and out... LUCHASAURUS GETS THE HOT TAG! Pump kicks for everybody!

Big chops, whip reversed, a lariat takes Hager out! Goozles on both men, they fight out but Luchasaurus goes under for kicks on both guys! Fireman’s carry into the reverse Death Valley Driver on Y2J, Jake hits the high-angle twisting spinebuster and the match breaks down into “everybody do something cool” territory!

Luchasaurus with a superkick... JERICHO KICKS OUT! Chris floats out of a slam attempt, gets knocked down by a shoulder block, the rolling knee connects... STILL NO! Calling for it, Santana up on the apron behind him but Jungle Boy takes him out with a diving Frankensteiner over the ropes! Luchasuarus has Jericho but Serpentico attacks him with a weapon from the apron!

Jericho capitalizes...

Inner Circle win by pinfall with a Codebreaker from Chris Jericho on Luchasaurus.

Post-match, the Inner Circle and Serpentico beat Jurassic Express down! SERPENTICO OFF THE TOP WITH A SHOOTING STAR PRESS! HE TAKES THE MASK OFF AND IS ACTUALLY SAMMY GUEVARA! The Inner Circle put boots to Jurassic Express more but Best Friends make the save!

We’re informed a ten-man has been booked for next week between these teams as they square off against each other.

That’s the show, folks.
