Will #2BeltzBanks become a reality at The Horror Show?

WWE

Asuka (c) vs. Sasha Banks
Raw Women’s Championship

The Road so Far

On June 22, Sasha Banks & Bayley soundly defeated The IIconics on Monday Night Raw. During their post-match celebration, Sasha Banks admitted that she was a little jealous of her bestie, Bayley Dos Straps. For a moment, it seemed like Sasha wanted to name herself as the challenger to the Smackdown women’s championship, but DING DONG she challenged Asuka instead.

In true Empress form, Asuka didn’t hesitate to agree to face Sasha at Extreme Rules, and they had a rather explosive contract signing on the following Monday. Sasha (complete with Boss Stamp TM) made it clear that not only was she looking to become #2BeltzBanks, but that it was only step one in her and Bayley’s plan to “take over the whole damn company.”

After the contract signing, Asuka and Banks began circling each other for weeks. They challenged each other on both Raw and SmackDown and assaulted each other backstage. Add into the mix Nikki Cross (Bayley’s Extreme Rules challenger), Alexa Bliss, and Kairi Sane? You’ve got yourself weeks full of entertaining matches keeping the fire and feud between Sasha and Asuka alive without falling into the classic WWE trap of repeat, repeat, repeat.

On the go-home episode of RAW, Bayley and Banks were once again victorious defending their tag titles against the Kabuki Warriors in a very close match. Asuka almost beat Sasha for her belt, and now it’s Sasha’s turn to see if she can dethrone the RAW women’s champion.

What’s at Stake?

The real question - an evergreen question it seems when it comes to anything involving Banks and Bayley - is this match getting us one step closer to Banks vs. Bayley 2.0?

Sasha has already made it clear that she wants two belts, but if she’s unable to beat Asuka, does that mean she’ll turn her sights on to her bestie? Or is this another red herring?

If Sasha loses and faces Bayley, it plays into the narrative we are all expecting from the Golden Role Models, but if she wins, that opens up a whole new arena of possibilities for them. Bayley and Banks have been KILLING it across all three brands, and carrying that much gold could result in some exciting challenges.

Plus, consider how satisfying it would be if they both carried two belts for a while, and then Bayley loses her championship first! Will Bayley be as gracious as Sasha was in the “sidekick” role, or will she be vindictive and cruel?

There are many possibilities for #2BeltsBanks, but she has to beat Asuka first, which is no small undertaking.

Sasha Banks will try to become 2 Beltz Banks at the Horror Show at Extreme Rules PPV, airing on the WWE Networking starting at 7 PM ET. And keep it here to CagesideSeats.com for all your Extreme Rules coverage.
