Tegan Nox becomes #1 contender to Io Shirai’s title

@WWENXT

The first night of the Great American Bash opened with the #1 contenders match for the NXT Women’s title. Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox, Dakota Kai, and Mia Yim squared off in a fatal 4-way elimination match.

Candice was the first eliminated, and pretty quickly too. She took an inadvertent (the heels were working together a bit) face wash kick from Dakota. Then Mia and Tegan teamed up on LeRae for a double team suplex. Yim finished her off with Protect Ya Neck.

It was an interesting move given Candice just turned heel, and you’d think they’d want to protect that character a bit more.

Mia Yim was the next out. She was on a roll, pretty much the star of the match given the amount of offense. She delivered Seoul Food/Eat De-Feet to Tegan, but Nox wisely rolled out of the ring. That broke Yim’s concentration and Dakota Kai caught the Blasian Baddie in an O’Connor Roll for the elimination.

That left long standing rivals Dakota Kai and Tegan Nox. The enemies went at each other for awhile, with Nox enduring a good deal of attack from Kai. But like any good babyface, Tegan fought back. She sealed the match with a Molly-Go-Round and a Shiniest Wizard to best her nemesis and pick up the win.

Tegan Nox will face Io Shirai in the future for the NXT Women’s championship.

This comes about two years after her devastating knee injury (her second major knee injury) in the Mae Young Classic. She’s fought her way back to NXT, and now she’s a step away from winning the top prize. But beating one of the greatest in Shirai will not be easy at all.

Excited?
