Rhea Ripley returns to confront Charlotte Flair after Women’s title mach

One of the two title matches set for tonight’s NXT was a Women’s title match between the champion Charlotte Flair and challenger Io Shirai.

While the match had potential to be a banger, the ending seemed to hold little drama. Was Charlotte really going to lose her first title defense after winning the title at WrestleMania? And if she did, could they make the ending feel less like the obvious destination?

In the end, they actually made sure to still protect Io Shirai.

As the match wore on, Io was still in the game. She went for a moonsault from the top rope to the floor when Charlotte moved. That’s when she used a kendo stick to attack Shirai. That resulted in a DQ.

The Queen went to beatdown her opponent with the steel steps. That’s when Rhea Ripley returned to chase off the woman who beat her for the title at WrestleMania.

We haven’t seen Rhea since her loss a month ago and there was word there could be work visa issues. But she’s back now and obviously back in the title picture.

Io Shirai did not appreciate the Nightmare’s help and actually confronted her outside. The women needed to be held apart by a bunch of security. As of now, both of these women are in the title scene. Maybe a triple threat in our future? Or a Io vs. Rhea #1 contenders match?

Either way, it’s great to see Rhea Ripley back on Wednesday nights.
