AEW returns to live TV with another win for Cody Rhodes

AEW aired taped episodes of Dynamite throughout the the month of April. During that time, nationally televised pro wrestling became classified as an essential business in the state of Florida. So they returned to Daily’s Place amphitheater in Jacksonville for a live episode of Dynamite tonight (May 6). The commentators made sure to acknowledge that everyone in the building was tested for COVID-19, and they praised the city of Jacksonville for having so much testing available.

The show kicked off just like it did last week, with a Cody Rhodes match and victory. This time he fought against Joey Janela in a match that the commentary team (which no longer includes Chris Jericho) presented as a trap for Rhodes, who will be wrestling at Double or Nothing on May 23 against Lance Archer for the TNT championship.

The pace really picked up in the second half of the match, which included this moonsault from Cody:

Cody went on to win after an exciting match, and there was no post-match attack or anything like that from Archer.
