AEW Rankings (May 6, 2020): TNT Championship final becomes #1 vs #2

AEW released their latest rankings (May 6, 2020). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.

Men:

Cody Rhodes remains #1 after knocking off Darby Allin in the TNT Championship tournament last week. Lance Archer was boosted from #4 to #2 after dismantling Dustin Rhodes. That now makes the final for the TNT Championship tournament become #1 vs #2. It will be interesting to see if that bout will be the main event at Double or Nothing on May 23. AEW wants the TNT Championship to be a strong title. Being main event with the top ranked contenders would help establish the belt’s credibility.

Kenny Omega dropped one spot from #2 to #3. After Darby Allin’s loss to Cody, he fell from #3 to #5. Mr. Brodie Lee makes his rankings debut at #4. Jake Hager got the boot from #5.

Based on this week’s rankings, I think we need Allin versus Hager. I’d argue Hager deserves the fifth spot over Allin. Hager’s only loss is to Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship. Allin has three losses. The strength of wins is up for grabs. I think the best win goes to Hager for defeating Dustin, but Allin has more quality wins with two over Sammy Guevara and one over Kip Sabian. Hager and Allin should settle it in the ring.

Women:

No changes this week.

Tag Team:

No movement this week. Best Friends’ win last week over Kip Sabian & Jimmy Havoc was not enough to push them past the Dark Order. Dark Order hasn’t wrestled in quite some time, but those 3 losses for the Best Friends are tough to overlook when comparing to an undefeated squad.

Do you agree with AEW’s rankings this week? If not, what would you change?
